Insurance for renting out equipment

    Hi all,

I occasionally hire out audio gear (small PA systems and a few lights). If I want to do this more often I would like to get insurance just to be safe.

First question is would public liability insurance cover renting gear to the public? If so what would it cover? (Fire, tripping, falling speakers?)

Would a signed waiver by the person renting equipment be sufficient?

Sounds like you need product liability type insurance to cover any fault in the equipment but you have no control, or insurable interest, in its use by hiree. You need specialist advice which any reputable broker can give you. Ask your local tool hire shop who does theirs!
