Real quality fighters won't go near him however, only those who are on the fringes of getting world title shots will take the chance.

I'm struggling to think of any real class MWs that can really test him. When you see the likes of Barker and Geale in the top 5 it doesn't say much for the talent level. Sturm and Macklin are top ten rated.

Martinez if he has healed up will be a great barometer for him. Someone with go lateral moment who has some decent pop. I think he smashes Geale, Barker etc pretty easily.

The irritating thing with Golovkin's career is that even a lot of these relatively ordinary guys won't go near him. I think Macklin deserves a lot of credit for being the first guy with a bit of a name to step up to the plate.

Hopefully now that he's doing big numbers on HBO there'll be more money there to entice guys into fighting him, Murray would be a decent start. As for Sergio I don't know if that's ever going to happen. Sergio wants to cash out and who can blame him. It's been a long career and he's only just started to get paydays that reflect his talent. If he gets the Cotto and Canelo fights then more luck to him.

I think Golovkin might have to settle for the next tier of opponent which admittedly isn't great. But by the end of 2014 he'll hopefully be in a position to make a superfight happen that'll show where he really stands.

Sergio is not the force he was several years back, and it has shown in his last few fights. Guys like Macklin and Barker and Murray doing very well against him. Murray and Barker had very little to offer (power wise) yet they troubled him.

Things looking worse for Abdusolomov unfortunately, seems he had a stroke on Sunday, but details were not released.

The stroke is the "blood clot on his brain" that was discovered and spoken about a few days ago. People have just heard the term stroke now and are acting like it's somehow different, it's just the label.

Best of luck to the poor man anyway. Will never fight again, he has been stripped of his livelihood and may not be able to work in a standard job if he recovers, depending on what kind of long term disability he may or may not have. Very sad. :(

EDIT: It may seem silly to mention, but I also feel quite bad for Perez. He may be in a world of guilt right now.

Did anybody watching the fight, at any time , think the fight should have been stopped?

There is alot of opinion after the fight, that the fight should have been stopped and the trainers and doctors were at fault...It was clear from the fifth round onward , that Magomed was suffering from a bad nose/cheek break , he was talking to his corner asking about this injury. He also had a broken left hand which his corner would have known about.

His corner , knowing he had heart and stamina and power knew there was a chance he could still win

Are the trainers relying on the doctors? Are the doctors relying on knock downs before they make decisions? Was this a 1 in 1000 injury? Is there anything to be learnt from this fight?

Watching the fight I didn't think at any point it should be stopped. Now by the end of the fight you could see swelling on Magomeds cheek & his face was badly marked but it wasn't a one sided fight

According to Kevin Iole, Cotto has been offered in excess of $10 million by GBP to face Canelo. Could free up Sergio for a GGG fight if Cotto accepts.

The management of Cotto's career has been pretty amazing. Even at this stage of his career he has promoters throwing money at him.

Apparently Murray is refusing to take the Golovkin fight, despite being ordered to do so by the WBA.

No way of knowing for sure from the outside but it certainly looks that way.

    Update on Abdusalamov
    Abdusalamov Improving Slightly

Sampson Lewkowicz, wishes to thank the boxing world for their prayers and donations to badly injured Russian heavyweight Magomed “Mago” Abdusalamov and has some cautiously optimistic news to convey.

“Mago still in an induced coma but is beginning to respond positively. I expect him to live. On behalf of the family and myself, I now ask you switch your prayers to his recovery. He has a very long road ahead.”

Today marks 14 days Abdusalamov has been in an induced coma at Roosevelt Hospital in New York. The 32-year-old married father of three young daughters, had to undergo emergency surgery to remove a blood clot, and part of his skull had to be removed to reduce swelling, following his brutal 10-round war against Mike Perez at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, on Saturday, November 2. In hospital, Abdusalamov came down with a 104-degree fever, which led to him suffering a stroke.

Doctors say they will try to wake Abdusalamov in a few days and test his reactions.

“From the bottom of my heart, we all appreciate the support, monetary and spiritually, that we have received worldwide. Doctors don’t know how far Mago will come back, but his recovery will be long and costly and we are still in need of further donations. I would like to also thank Ring 10 New York for their assistance in collecting funds.”

Ring 10 is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping boxers in need. 100% of tax-deductible donations will go towards helping Magomed Abdusalamov and his costly recovery.

    Please visit http://ring10ny.com/ to donate.

It's an absolute disgrace that this poor man and his family have to fundraise to pay for his medical bills. The fight promoters and TV Comapny should be footing the bill no questions asked. Makes me mad just thinking about it

On a semi-related note Pac's advisor Michael Koncz has a heart attack the other day.

Mago is out of the coma and no longer needs the life-support machine. Responding to visual and audio stimuli and recognising his family according to doctors. I think they're moving him from ICU to a regular room now as well. Good news, considering how bad things looked.

In what looks like a very easy fight, as long as there is no slip up he could be in line for a title shot later in the year.

Carlos Takam shouldn't pose much of threat. He has a loss to Gregory Tony and has been feasting off geriatrics ever since; god knows the heavyweight division has an ample supply of them.

Good to see Perez actually fighting but it's not like putting his last opponent in a coma is going to make the heavyweight division any less terrified of him.

I've been a boxing fan a long time but when i hear of a boxer getting a brain injury it makes me question the ok-ness of it all. At the same time i hate the way the media jump on it. Perez was on the front page of the examiners sport section, but it was all about abdusalamov's condition. Its a tricky issue.
