Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There's a spelling allowance. Unfortunately, you're not going to qualify for it :)

Is there any garda recruitment this year?

Well if the number is to be maintained above 13000 on a long-term basis he'll have to.

    2011:13,894
    2012:13,424
    2013:13,100

Sure by the time this round actually graduates it'll be below 13,000.

    Hi lads,

Quick question, if I'm lucky enough to get to the medical and my eye test falls outside the requirement is it completely nesseccery to get laser eye surgery or would corrective contact lenses be enough??

No you will need laser-surgery, your vision will have to be within the limits on the day of the medical, without glasses or contact lens. You would be wasting your time if you go with contact lens, as you will fail the medical. sorry , i know how expensive it is , and no guarantee when it is done that you will be accepted. Find out what the requirement is for vision in each eye, and then go to a optician and have a eye test he will tell you if your vision is within the limits required, best of luck

When I joined in 2005 I was able to defer for 3 months while I got the laser eye surgery. Passed everything else, interview etc and medical except for the eyesight.

Not sure how that will fare this time as the competition is so much smaller.

Could anybody tell me if the report writing on the day of the interview is still part of the recruitment process?

As you have said your friend only has leaving cert irish at foundation level, his only option is to find out about public appointment service holding a special exam on his irish. read more here

Okay at what stage exactly are these tests going to happen.

stage 5 I think. if your successful at interview then you will do the physical. So plenty of time to practise dont worry!

btw men's and women's are different standards eg. men have to do more sit ups and press-ups than our lady friends

50% of them must be over weight.. saying that, I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

Also for the older candidates the number of sit ups and push ups are lower.

What does the level mean for the shuttle test?

  • Registered Users Posts: 77 ✭✭Murphster

The level in the shuttle test is the minimum you must reach in order to pass the test.

Here is a link detailing the stats one is required to achieve in their respective category: http://www.topendsports.com/testing/beep-table.htm

They've had a month to get organised. No excuse why they can't get the ball rolling, I'd say Monday.
