Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'v had a laptop for the past 5 years and I think it may have final died, thinking about buying a mac if I have to get a new one.

How much better then regular laptops are they? Or are they worth the price?

They are not worth the price.

It's like versace clothing, you pay for the label/brand. Do you want to pay for the label of apple computers on a costly scale? or do you want to pay less than half that price of apple and purchase a good spec windows system laptop ?

If you like versace clothes, go with that, if you want the same quality of versace without the logo then go with windows based systems, but both are quality products, the brand name is what you are really paying extra for, but some new mac-pros are super-glued together internally i.e, non-upgradable in some parts or most.

    It depends on:

    1) Whether you are part of the whole apple ecosystem or not - i.e. itunes, ipod etc.

    2) Do you run programs on a regular basis that aren't available on a mac? In which case you will have to run in an emulator or dual boot to windows.

Someone mentioned to me the other day that he has an apple machine connected to the TV that he uses for movies but that it takes him a half hour or more to figure out how to do things.

That said i know people who use macs on a daily basis and just deal with stuff.

Take a look at the programs you use on a regular basis and whether they are available for OSX or not.

This is done to death here. Any laptop at the same price will be similar quality(and better in many cases as apple is known to be overpriced)

Why do you want a mac?
What will you need out of your alptop?

As a mac user I wouldn't suggest that PC users with large software collections should buy one. Otherwise go for it.

(Ignore or take with a pinch of salt the cost arguments as the actual cost of anything is the depreciation cost which be lower for macs but do research).
