In the middle of trying to convince my wife that if I pay 3 grand on a mark 3 escort we will make the money back in one years ownership due to tax and insurance savings ECT.. ..

Her best argument is well you needn't expect me to drive that and im like erm is that ment to put me off??

Anyway what would you think price wise duke you that's into the elder stuff too. It's an absolute spotless car think I post a picture of it on here a year or so ago all original never modified in anyway.

You would want to be a big Ford man to own one. Probably the worst of all the Escort models, and not really that interesting to drive. An XR3 would be the only Mk3 I personally would recommend.

But go for it if you like the car yourself, to tick a box if nothing else.

I remember you posting it here alright, I think you mentioned it was owned by a neighbour? I'm going to be a biased and say GO FOR IT because..well, old cars are great :p

Personally I've never spent that kind of money on a second car and probably never will. I had my Tipo on the road and legal (including the cost of buying) for under a grand but classic tax really does up the price of cars here.

If you can make the numbers work in your favour and you like it - do really go for it.

Get what ye are saying guys I'm not a massive ford man I'm more of old opels and bmw but it's just my second car was a mk3 escort and I do actually love the loom if it it's just so original and clean and thinking even if I don't love it as long as it's looked after I can sell it in a year or so time and hopefully recoup the investment.

I've been looking at some e30 320i but they are all fetching mega money for a clean one and I'm not in a position to invest much more then 3k into one this year.

The plus side is I know the escort inside out I worked on them plenty years ago when I was an apprentice so I'd be better equipped to look after it then I could a modern car.

Edit: Sorry my original post was ment to say 2 grand ha sorry. He has it for sale for 2350.

How much is insurance? Are there any restrictions if it's a classic policy? Does it need an NCT every year? Sorry about all the ceist?

400 a year for Insurance and just passed nct. The actual nct don't bother me as I say I'd be able to all work myself on it no problem I haven't forgot that much ha.

I'd say maximum id do in it might be 3k miles a year.
