    That MX3 looks spotless.

    Quirky old things, them.

How do ye tell what county the older reg's are from? Just asked my 39 year old petrol head brother and he said exactly what I was thinking.

"I dunno. Dad knew em all. I could never figure it out"

He's right too. The aul lad knew em all and tried to explain it to us many many times but we could never grasp it

For your own county you'd have your own / family / friends cars as fixed references, the timing of new models / last of old models that you might see, etc... then you just fill in the gaps. You might have a similar idea for neighbouring counties but beyond that most people would be at a loss.

Pretty recent import on a 9xxx plate in Clare at a guess.

That MX3 looks like the boggo 1.6 auto model. Nice to see one still knocking around.

They're cool looking cars with superb handling. I had a black one when I was 17.

A 1989 Porsche Carrera - the modern Mini just behind it was substantially taller. :)
A while back there was a proper, Issigonis, Mini behind me when I was in the Exige. His headlights seemed to be above me when I looked in the mirrors.:)

I'd love one, especially an Irish one. There was a tatty old Escort on the drive, I figured it must have replaced the Riva. The owner is clearly a person of exquisite taste

I saw a little car from 1930. Not sure what type, I think it was a mini. I know nothing about cars. I was just delighted to see it. I'm beating my boyfriend in our running "oldest car we've spotted" competition. Beating him by 33 years :). We walk a lot and we keep ourselves entertained by playing "yellow reg" and "spot the old car" .

About 30 years too early for a Mini.

Two from earlier today - Boreenmanna Road petrol station. A Mk II Granada in mint condition, tan with vinyl roof, and still on original plates getting lots of admiring looks. Later a white Ford Anglia with a red roof and trim line looking like a nearly completed restoration project.

Why are japanese cars from the 80s so damn cool? :)

Didn't manage to get pictures of either of these as I was driving, but last night I saw a 1963 Cortina estate on the M1 heading north just past the airport exit. Looked to be in good condition, too. Later on, I was driving through Balbriggan and saw a 1970 SL Merc, also in very good nick. Two prized cars, by the look of them, and rightly so.
