Someone mentioned the purchase of a new Renault 19 in 1989.

Not sure what it says about me - but I actually remember the runout of the Renault 9/11 that the R19 replaced - and the R19 coming out.

For some bizarre reason that makes no sense at all* - I actually thought at the time the Renault 11 looked cool - especially the Louisanne edition with the tinted glass, colour keyed bumpers and front fogs.

*its like someone looking back at pics of themselves in the 70s and thinking - WHAT I ACTUALLY THOUGHT those jeans and hairstyles wee cool - omg

Today I helped an old woman in Carpet Right out to her car with a small roll of carpet - 1990 Fiesta 5 door. It was in seriously good nick and she said she had it since around 1995.

Two identical e10 Corolla saloons in the same car park, one a 94 and one a 92.

Sadly couldn't get photos of any of the above though :o

Grimey S class, 92 Vitara and there's a chrome bumper MGB just around the pillar there. All here years.

Also a mint 98 Fiat Coupe in Swords and a white EP80 Starlet

Saw a cream mk1 1978 fiesta on the back of a truck the other day. Looked like it rolled out of the factory. Fantastic restoration. Unfortunately I was driving at 80mph down the M20 so no chance of a photo.

Yeah I looked up wikipedia to make sure that model went back that far in case it had fake plates, haha

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

It's an import too but not JDM I don't think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

It's a very early number so must have come in from the Uk in early 1987.

That or it was going around with "For Reg" on the back for 4 years :pac:

Saw some kind of import today, Reg began 77 D. Open to correction on this, but I believe older cars, even pre 91's are given year, county, order designation.

Ah no 77 D would be correct, classics can choose between that or a ZV plate upon import. I had a 69 D last year but mainly ZVs and a few old style Irish plates

Any original Irish car bought new in 1983 in Limerick - will have had the old style system obviously.

Not sure the low number on that Corolla is neccessarly indicative of the car being registered in early 87.

Reckon its because that's all the 1983 2nd hand imports registered in Limerick with the newer type post 87 style reg when that actual car was registeed

If a 2nd hand 1983 car was imported from the UK in say 1985 - would it have got that type reg that's on that Corolla - ie 83 XX XXXX. I thought it might do but im not sure.

Know of a W123 Merc bought in from Germany in around 1989 - which got a year based plate - possibly 1983 as well actually.....

Saw a mangey, and I mean mangey, 88 C Corsa on the M1 the other day.

This has been abandoned for years too. No I didn't blank the reg, it's faded off

Okay you can decide on whether, your car is registered under the old or new system pre 89/91.(can't remember the year this was actually rolled out)
