Ford Capri "Laser" in Dun Laoghaire today, 77 KK.
I fell in love with the Capri car when I was 6 years old having seen it in a magazine.
For the next 12 months I pestered my poor 127-buying daddy if it could be the next car we bought.
At the age of 7 I learned that you couldn't just choose any car you wanted and that they all costed different amounts of "money".
    Whatever that was...
I think I seen that also, parked near the People's Park?
I saw a 1962 Mercedes tonight in Dun Laoghaire, it was huge. I think it might have been a W111? Reg was 62--D-5.

The Audi styling of that era worked really well.

Nice car the 80s - even the previous model which was more boxy always looked nice.

Hard to imagine its 25 years old now - I still remember the criticism back in the day about the boot on that version of the 80 - before Audi addressed it in the 1992 facelift.....

It's funny how Leitrim proportionately seems to have far more of these relics on the road than other counties. You would have thought that with roads being sh1te, they would have been wrecked by now.

Well of course the 88/92 Carina was pulling a trailer ! They took over from the Hilman Hunters for the farmers.:). If you had said there was no trailer we wouldnt have believed you..:D

But roads in leitrim aren't in ****e. Massive works done for tourism reasons over the years. Also has an older age profile, and them boys don't care about "keeping up with the jones" if the car is going well what's the point of changing up? :D

The N4 runs the length of the county.

Lads need a Landcruiser these days to do what their fathers/uncles and Grandfathers did back in the day with a humble Hunter :D.

Far from the first Carina II to have pulled a trailer as you rightly say.

Its just a bit unusual to see it now due to the cars getting older and less common.

And there was a brief fad for fitting a perkins diesel into A Hunter. Even more agricultural than it sounds!

Nissan Bluebird diesels were v common transplants too
An era of diesels in the mid 80s to mid 90s cannot be equaled for longetivity and overall reliability
    Same with Audi 90 tdi

Leitrims roads aren't that bad really, at least the main ones.

    Mother of god

Theres only one answer for that - WHY.

Makes spending 20 grand to save a few quid on tax seem - sensible -

Thank god ive never seen one - sounds horrific.

I never actually liked Hunters - because I saw them as old crocks at a time when I liked new cars. (im talking late 80s here).

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭Old diesel

    Thinking of Hunters reminds me

My Aunt had one - and its just dawned on me - that a) hers was actually a tidy, well minded example - and b) I don't think I EVER saw her cars dirty - especially the interiors.

Clean, tidy and not looking like a wreck - were not things you could use to describe MOST surviving Hunters in around 1988/89

Because petrol was ruinously expensive (we thought!) and lads that were tipping about from farm to mart all day every day could get a tank of white diesel in the farmyard. Green diesel was about 50p and white just about 1 pound. Some times they would get green stuff as well......... :)

I saw a Toyota Gt2000 on a trailer today. It was a n Irish reg 1968 in red. I was on my motorbike so no picture.

It was the most beautiful car I have ever seen. Supposedly worth 7 figures according to Google.

That car can be seen at Cars and Coffee in Limerick. I have seen it there.

Nice work - hope it doesn't need much work to get it back on the road.

    Best of luck with it

Thanks, she shouldn't need much but I'll end up doing a lot of unnecessary stuff too because I like that

She's mad original, it'll be preserved and added to the collection
