    Hoping for some help

    I have 2 monitors
    Primary is connected via DVI
    secondary via HDMI

I'm running win7 64bit and an ATI 6770 with extended desktop

When i turn the secondary display off everything there stays there [not the issue]
Every time i turn the secondary display on windows detects a new display but dumps everything back to the primary display.
Is there a way to prevent this ?

I am fairly sure its not a GFX card issue or a driver issue

Disable TMM and see if it makes a difference.

This issue is all over the web, part of Windows 7 design Microsoft say but they're are 2 things you can try:

    1. Open Windows 7 registry editor by clicking Start, type regedit.
    2. Right click on regedit, click on Run as Administartor.
    3. Navigate to the location: (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TMM))
    4. Click UseIViewHelper in the right pane.
    5. Set the value data to “0” {zero} to disable TMM feature in Windows 7.
    6. If you want to re-enable TMM feature, set the value data to “1”.
    7. Click OK and reboot you computer for the changes to take effect.

To disable monitor detection, with AMD/ATI gfx cards under Windows 7, search for DMMEnableDDCPolling registry key and set it to 0 (it is DWord). There are several places in the registry where this key is located. Change them all and reboot. Doing this will disable constant polling of the display driver to detect if user attached a monitor.

If you lack the entry, look for UMD keys under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\ and add it to those.

Have you the control centre installed for the card?
