Can anyone recommend a good antenna cable splitter that I can use to hook up a few vhf receivers to the same antenna. i have found one or two on the web but they seem very expensive, almost $200. Are there cheaper ones out there ir is that just want they cost. I can't seem to find any homebrew versions out there either.

I built a 4 way switch out of a biscuit tin and a 3 gang two way light switch......

And if you don't want to build it yourself (which should really not be too difficult just for receiving) you can buy plenty of different types for all sorts of frequency ranges and connectors for very little money:
