Got off a bus in Drumcondra on Sunday and walked past a bunch of them sitting on the concrete ground. Didn't even think to look at the kids. Will have be more vigilante about this.

It really does have the possibility of something very big being uncovered, I imagine a lot of attention from authorities will be more focused on the Roma during this period.

With all this media attention I fear for any other children that might have been abducted.

Gardai called to a house in Tallaght in south county Dublin yesterday afternoon after they received a report that the girl was living there with a Roma family.

I agree. Prostitution is very much up there as a major earner for european criminal gangs.

All their kids should be taken whether they're kidnapped or not.
Bringing them out in all kinds of weather using them to aid their begging campaigns and teaching them to pick pocket? Kids be better off with decent families.

Feel sorry for that poor kid ,her kidnappers are absolute scum but if she spent years with them she thinks of them as her parents and tonight she will be living with strangers

    terrible stuff:(

I swear, to this day, I'm haunted by something that happened on a bus while in Krakow about 3 years ago.

A dark-coloured gyspy couple had the most beautiful girl with them. She was about 6, fair-skinned, blue eyed and blonde hair and it was clear her hair had been dyed many times but now had the colour out - her hair was like straw.

We were outside of the city and 3G was ropey at best, and I couldn't get information for the local police.

I'm 100% convinced the child was abducted. In retrospect, we could have asked someone on the bus or perhaps the conductor but who was I to ring the police just because I thought a child might be abducted - for all I knew, there was a legit reason for her to be with them.

Looking at the last two cases in Dublin and Greece, it hits home that I should have done something more about it.

Very human comment - fair play Sept!

It's awful sad to think that there's a very scared little girl who doesn't know what the hell is going on. Hopefully she's happy and feels safe. Hope they get her home - or find a safe and loving place for her to grow up.

There have been many young women trafficked across Europe. Many Serbian girls forced into prostitution after the war. It's horrific to think that this is happening also makes me wonder if these ladies had children they would be powerless to keep them. I hope the powers that be are working hard to capture the criminal gangs behind these atrocities.

it was an area near the M50/Ballymun roundabout where there were a couple of buildings (still there) and some shelters (not there anymore) that they used.

So not exactly on or under a roundabout. You can still see some of the boarded up dwellings there.

O no, there was a good few on the roundabout allright (or the island in the road, whatever it was). I was just saying it wasn't tolerated, not that it didn't exist.

Aye they used to send the kids out on the busy road to beg at the cars. I remember that.

Correct, they were actually within the roundabout

The whole thing is so weird. Am just wondering what the Roma stand to gain from kidnapping these kids? That little girl in Greece was with them for a number of years it seems, so it doesn't look like they wanted to 'sell her off'? And not to sound bad but if they were gonna kidnap a kid and claim it's their own then why didn't they go for less conspicuous looking kids - someone with black hair or more sallow skin who would fit in better with their group?? I would not be surprised if it did transpire that someone gave their kid up to the Roma.

If these illegal camps weren't allowed then maybe they wouldn't be here and this wouldn't if happened
It is easier for illegal activities to happen in these illegal camps

One of the access points to the area was on the Ballymun road just after the roundabout, but the camp was a bit further beyond that in the direction of where Homebase is. There is an access road that runs behind Homebase that leads to another entrace to Santry Woods/NorthWood which the camp was closer to.

Apparently they get more money having fair-skinned kids beg for them as they are considered cuter.

I think you are very naive a blond girl is more valuable as they may have plans to do terrible things to her when she is older if you know what I mean

Some media talk of the child (in Greece) being "given" to the Roma family by traffickers (who they presumably knew) when a deal to sell the child abroad went sour....not entirely convincing...surely they'ed just try to sell the child to someone else.

The other urban myth/explanation is that a fair skinned/haired child would earn more money begging AND that there is a desire amongst the Roma to introduce more fair skinned genes so that they might be more accepted in wider society.

Or gave a kid up not necessairly theirs which is a concern - theres something more to this that makes me uneasy about the whole thing. I read both stories and cant see the motive, it makes no sense.

Hopefully an in depth investigation will take place and the true extent and motives are found - and hopefully innocent children rescued, but as someone posted before there are NO winners here kids will be ripped from what tthey have been led to believe are their families.

The kids may win if they spend the rest of their lives away from the influence of these families. For example, the girl in Greece was said, by "family" to be much-loved and very well cared for by her "parents" - yet the pictures show her unwashed and unkempt.
