Anyone know the story with tickets for Leinster v Munster match? Presume they're only on sale on the gate on Saturday night?

game finished 14 apiece so Leinster win interpro title.
Munster scored late try and missed conversion which would have won them title

Connacht U18s win the Interpros for the first time ever beating Leinster in Barnhall RFC on Saturday 21-19 completing three wins from three. Decent crowd in and lots of support for all four teams on the day. The girls join the Connacht U18 lads as 3-0 interpro winners! Happy days out West!:)

Still no sign of this summer's strategic plan then?

Still no sign of this summer's strategic plan then?

    Next Tuesday
Meanwhile, the IRFU’s strategic plan (2018-2023), which will include the direction of the women’s game following a painstaking review process, will be published next Tuesday.

So no professionalisation of XVs rugby at all. What a surprise. We’re going to be miles behind the best if the course is not corrected

Even worse than that really the top end of women's 15s isn't Changing at all. AIL no change, no plans for extra Interpros,

The plan is more what we know has been happening just being cemented

7s is the way forward for the IRFU.

They still won’t say it though. And they’ll still funnel investment into 7s through the lens of “women’s rugby” at any opportunity.

If you’re an amateur international who went through that 2015 World Cup you’d have to be seriously questioning whether it’s worth the commitment

I think these changes are worse than no professionalism in 15s.
AIL just 7 teams. No Extra interpros. Is terrible. Like what is being done to really help the club game beyond the AIL as well.

It's a sad state of affairs, and quite a blow for anyone involved in the women's setup. Particularly when our English counterparts have just announced professional contracts for their 15s players.

Its frustrating and annoying about no talk about professionalising the womens game but more is needed in the club game here. In some areas some clubs have hoovered up far too many strong players and that doesnt help development of game in more clubs. I know players want to play with the best but surely the IRFU could look at doing something about clubs with so many top players linked to so few clubs. Munsters squad for interpros was basically the Bohs team with 7/8 others. That really doesnt help develop more clubs. Now if some of those players were spread across another club or two in Limerick or elsewhere it could help attract more players and have another club or two strong and competitive.

The players will go to clubs who will support them. Unfortunately there are very few clubs who will do that adequately

Oh totally agree. But there is few more who are at a lower level that do support their womens sides quite well in the cities but will never attract the top players who will go to the Bohs, Belvos

    Very, very, very few.

Railway Union are at a “lower level”. Small clubs who actually put the support in place do fine.

Definitely an issue, even if you look at the Leinster squad for the interpro vs Munster, the starting 15 had 6 from Railway, 5 from Belvo and 3 from Blackrock.

But how do you propagate amateur players, other than offering all clubs the opportunity to give players the supports that other clubs such as Railway do? If there were professional contracts in place you can have provisions in for the number of contracted players per squad.

You don't have to limit the number of contracted players per squad.

The IRFU's approach is the correct one to fixing this problem (very specifically the concentration of players), which is to increase the number of active senior players and more importantly to increase the quality of coaching and number of quality coaches. It will just take a long time. And it will take an even longer time if they keep screwing up the elite level which is the best and most cost-effective advertisement for the game that they have.

Clubs could greatly accelerate the solution if they just try to take women's rugby more seriously. Naas this season are a good example, hopefully that keeps going in the direction its going now.

I think anyone who is taking exception to the lack of professional contracts needs a bit of a wake up call.

The top down approach will not work. Just look at the race quota in South Africa. Better support structures will lead to better long term options at the very top levels

I think the goals set out for 2023 are pretty achievable.

An expansion of the AIL would be a good medium term goal also

But there's no plans for an expansion of the AIL, no plans for more Interpros which would be a better warm up for international duty.

Where and what competitions are all these new players going to play with out a clear goal at the top level to develop or increase games.

Except any time they’ve been asked about professionalisation (for example committing to even a single professional full time coach) the answer has been to wait for the strategic plan. And now there’s no reference to it whatsoever and they’ll go back to ignoring it again.

Also, the top down approach is not only workable, it’s a necessity to any real progress with any great speed. Racial quotas are an utterly ridiculous example. Go ask hockey clubs in Dublin how turnout has been this season. Or cricket clubs 10 years ago. Or rugby clubs after the triple crowns.

its not that the 2023 goals are achievable, its that they dont amount to "progression" for the 15s game

consistent 3rd place?? thats not at all progression !!
in the last 6 years the ladies have had 2 winning positions (one grand slam)
one 2nd place and three 3rd positions.....

and they want to view consistent 3rd as progress... well there is truth in the saying that if you stand still you go backwards.

its disgraceful what they are doing to the womens game at a high level.

and all that grass roots progression and goals they include is simply a continuation of a trend rather than any concrete action pushed by the IRFU or branches. Its the hard work of club volunteers which achieve these goals.
