Looks like this year's women's 6 nations is going to be a continuation of the last few.

Professional England and France five levels above the rest....

50+ points scored against their amateur opponents.

Is the comp meritorious if 2/5s of the teams are fully professional but the other 3/5s are at least part time pro+?

Seeing so many more being capped who've been playing rugby since they were 7/8 years of age which is great to see and shows the importance of these games being on tv and the success of team helping that as well.

3 of the 23 were on Munster u18s 3 years ago which is good going.

Love how so many of the players come from what are seen as junior clubs in mens rugby. Fethard, Ballinasloe, Mallow

Sure one of the most successful Women's teams is Railway Union, which is a historically junior club right? It seems a little easier for junior clubs to pivot their focus to supporting women's teams and truly valuing them. Once they do recruitment doesn't seem to be that hard!

Edit: Originally said "relatively junior club" - STB pointing out that isn't quite the case anymore, so edit to say "historically junior club"

    Correct, I phrased that poorly.

Ireland destroying Wales in open play so far.

Ireland 17-0 up from 3 tries after just 15 minutes.

Beibhinn Parsons is a super player at 19.

All the talk before the tournament was the two pro teams v amateurs but on this viewing Ireland don’t deserve to be classed with the other three. Wales are brutal. Ireland in a little middle class of their own. Their pack and Parsons are absolutely murdering wales

    Some start!

This could be an enormous score by the end

Rachael Blackmore just won the Grand National too.

    Gwan the wimmens!

Last lineout was gun barrel straight, referee having a momentary lapse in vision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,734 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Two errors close to the Welsh line cost us being 45-0 ahead

Deliberate knock on two meters from the ref not penalized. Joke of a ref.

Really enjoying the attention the women's game is getting this Six Nations. I think they should start running it after the men's tournament for future editions to increase it's attention.

Not that it matters but the last try...Referee and touch judge should award a penalty try... tackling around the throat / neck, basically a clothesline.

Other side of coin to that is match clashing with Leinster game. Could work even better if it didnt clash but hard to have the space outside test window I think.

Not sure they should for all games but maybe for some of them they could try play games either week before mens tournament starts or games on rest weeks of mens tournament.

Scoreboard more reflective and true to the absolute level of dominance that the girls enjoyed over Wales...45-0... great job.

I sometimes wish the pundits and press writers did not go into so much detail about Ireland's tactics and game plans as they are giving away a lot of info.
Top drawer game and a big performance from Dorothy Wall.

    This is a bit mad.
    https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/a-late-bloomer-to-rugby-lauren-delanys-path-to-ireland-caps-was-found-in-exile-40310980.html

Takes up rugby for the first time at 28 and three years later as 13 international caps. Hard to take the womens game seriously as an "elite" sport.

Not mad at all. Happens regularly across many sports where very talented players from other sports bring those transferable skills and rise through ranks very quickly in sport 2/3.

tom court was a shotputter and didnt play rugby till he was 24 and was playing for ireland A 16 months later.. and ended up with 32 caps.

its not unusual for an athlete whop excels at one sport to cross over to another and excel at that too, especially where the skills transfer over quite readily

How are they deemed elite in the first place? They're not professional, they're viewership and attendence figures are extremely low in comparsion intercounty GAA. Ridiculous that they're allowed train, play matches and be exempt from mandatory quarantine.

lol - The detail is there to be seen.

Every team has an analysis dept. anyway (most nations Men's and Women's teams are part of the same data package they'd get) that would already know all of this (or at least has the data there)

    And yet here we are.

Get to watch a rugby game this weekend. Looking forward to it
