How long before a property is disconnected?

    Hi,

I was wondering how long after a gas supply is cancelled before there is a disconnect and then a reconnect fee has to be paid to setup a new supply?

For example we are moving to a house where the gas was supplied by Electric Ireland but we have been informed that the current tenants have already cancelled their contract for the gas supply.

We don't plan on moving in until the 30th of this month, will there be issues with us then setting up the gas supply? Will we have to pay a reconnect fee? What actions should we take to avoid having to pay a reconnect fee?

    Thanks in advance,
    Donal

    Hi Donal,

For gas, there is a window of approximately two weeks between when supply is cancelled and when vacant premises disconnection is carried out by Bord Gáis Networks.

If you could private message us the GPRN (gas point reference number) and address (or just the address if you do not have the GPRN) we will check whether the property's gas is still connected or not.
If it is still connected, we would recommend registering a gas account today - if you do so with Electric Ireland, standing charges and VAT for the seven days prior to moving in, would cost approximately €2.

    Kind regards,
    Una
