Holidaying Alone - Advice needed

    Hi All,

I was wondering if I can pick some of your brains and get some inspiration.

I have a weeks holidays to take in November, and would love to go away somewhere - the only thing is as I am single and most of my friends are teachers - it looks like I might have to go on holidays alone.

Now that is not something I really mind, but I am looking for advice from people who have holidayed alone before and ideas on where to go. I was thinking of a short city break.

    Thanks for your help.

Would you be willing to go on a group holiday? I'm in the same boat, all my friends are living in other countries or busy with work so I've been looking at group travel. It seems handy as the itinerary is set out already. These are the sites I've been looking at:

    Hi Sophya,

Thanks so much for these, yeah I would look at joining group travel - I will have a look and see if I can find something to match my dates off work.

I have traveled by myself and loved it, but then I am comfortable in my own company.

I went to Paris alone and adored it, I could spend half an hour in front of one painting if I wanted, I could sit in the Tuileries Gardens, eat an ice cream and watch the world go by. It was refreshing and rejuvenating :)

I've been away with Intrepid Travel and really enjoyed it, however it can be totally subjective depending on who you get shacked up with! (However they also have more day trip things too I think)

I found what worked better was going to places on my own, then using meetup.com or Couchsurfing to find people to do things with there. That way I got the best blend of chilled out solitude, and also the social stuff.

    Hi OP,
I have moved your thread to this forum as I think you will get more responses to your query here.
Best of luck with it, and have a read of the charter of this forum before posting.

I did a short walking break on the Camino on my own.

    Have a look at

I didn't stay in the hostels but stayed in pre booked hotels and baggage was transferred. Great holiday.

Also look at the Travel Department, they have great escorted holidays.
