I think sixix is a pretty stupid name for a bar.

    Isn't it 69?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

I think they said on their Facebook page that it's just supposed to be pronounced 'six'.

I thought sixtyIX or 69 was kinda
    Clever
But a bit provocative just for the sake of it.
    Same as bdsm

It's 6ix - the building is number 6 Bridge Street.

^^^ but then why not just call it Six?

It's clearly working if it's intended to get people talking about the place!:pac:

"six" or "6" or "VI" reads as the number of the building

6ix reads sixix - (or 69 as pointed out) it's gimmicky and stupid!

The name is poop, frankly. Maybe they thought it was hip and would get people to debate it and that would get people talking about the place...

Oh yeah, I agree. It's a stupid name.

I'm interested to see what kind of food they do, but I haven't much interest in it as a bar.

It's a Benny McCabe bar, I'm definitely gonna have to check it out, the man has yet to open a bad bar.

Not exactly known for his good food, though!

For a terrifying moment I thought that god awful Pop band was reforming.

Not a fan of Tapas myself, so I don't care about the food too much :) The Cocktails on the other hand.... :)

I've never tried the food in Arthur Mayne's, but it looks (and smells) lovely. I don't think it's necessarily tapas going back into 6ix either.

Food's been decent in Maynes and the Bodega any time I've eaten there.

I have to admit that I have't had food in Mayne's but I've had so much crap food in The Bodega over the first few years of it's existence that nothing would move me to try it again (could be great now).

The food in The Bodega was really, really, really good for the first few weeks when the fancy chef from Spain was around for the set up. Then he went back and the food pretty quickly went seriously downhill to the point I wouldn't eat there any more and I did try it over about 2 years, then gave up. For that reason, I haven't been moved to try Mayne's.

I've had brunch in the Bodega a couple of times and it's alright, nothing special IMO. They used to have fantastic chips, but I can't say whether they still do.

I sat at the bar by the food prep area in Arther Mayne's one night and everything looked and smelled great. I'd like to try eating there actually.

My experience with the Bodega is the same, food was great at the start, and it's average at best now. Pity, as it's a great setting for a meal, especially when they have afternoon music.

I have lunch there regularly , and can recommend it ... I have a fierce soft spot for the spiced beef sandwich on white bread.. If I was to be critical I do find it a bit dark inside for lunch time dining ... Doesn't deter me too much though :D

Might be worth a try so.
Hopefully no Guinness or Heineken either.

Looks to me like it's Heineken Sponsored by a picture that shows only Heineken products on tap, and one unidentifiable tap.
