    Hi all.
Dropped my Seagate 3tb hard drive last night.
It spins up when plugged in but is not recognised by the computer and the light on it which is usually static is blinking.
Sounds like the read write head may be damaged.
    Makes a clicking sound
Anyway, is this saveable... Have a lot of photos on it I'd like back and about 1.5 of movies and series.....

    Cheers
    HB

If there is physical damage, i.e. to the read/write heads, files maybe still recoverable, but you'll ned the services of forensic data recovery professionals. And it ain't gonna be cheap.

connect to a pc ,Maybe use the dvd rom drive, sat, power cable from the pc, temporarily,

or put it in a SATA caddy 3.5inch .

THE small pcb, inside the case could be damaged,
which is totally separate from the hardrive,

it just sends data, power to the drive.
    OR the internal cables ,
data ,power might be just loose,or disconnected.

    JUST open the case,
see is there anything, loose or is pcb, broken.

    Should look like this, picture

just 1 pcb, attached to hardrive, by data,,and power cable.

IT easy to remove the hardrive.

    or get this,http://www.maplin.co.uk/icy-dock-2.5-3.5-inch-sata-usb-dock-813402

IF you buy a caddy 3.5 enclosure ,you,ll need to buy one with
    its own power supply.

A USB powered caddy will not supply enough power for a 3tb hd.

YOU ,ll HAVE to install it in a pc, or caddy 3.5 powered, unit to find out is it working ,

Any pc With a sata data, power cable will do ,even an old pentium 4 pc.

if using the caddy ,turn it on,
    then boot up pc,
    plug in caddy usb cable,
Wait 5 minutes ,see does it say external drive, device detected.

    maybe try freeze trick,

but you need another large drive to copy photos onto,
    forget about the films
you might only get 1 chance to acess the data.

Try plug it into a Linux machine.
I've had hard drives not recognized on windows after a drop work fine on Linux.
