Does the fact that Wales is getting a hammering mean the worst of it has passed over us now?

Some strong gusts now here in Dublin City Centre.

Either some people are quite exaggerating in their posting or else I live in the least wind affected area in Ireland, because I wouldn't even call it gusty out there. (S.Kildare)

Edit: Maybe it's just a coastal event, impressive winds in Wicklow.

Wicklow and South Dublin is very stormy at the moment, Just drove from Shankill to Wicklow and it's the stormiest I have seen it in a while, passed a tree down and lots of wheelie bins. I cant help but feel that this has been underestimated by met E, there was much more on the radio etc about last weeks storm and that didn't affect us.

My event for this system was this morning, almost nothing at all after 09:10am it threatened in the mid afternoon, but it was just a whimper.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

How long is this gonna last, will we be seeing more strong winds through the evening?

  • Registered Users Posts: 58 ✭✭snowstorm2013

Its a bit gusty in West Dublin but certainly nothing unusual. So Met E were correct in not hyping this event.

Yes I think it did catch them on the hop so to speak. For example, at 9am this morning there was no weather warning in place on their website (in stark contrast to MT's alert some hours earlier). The warning suddenly appeared around 9.20 for Kerry, Cork and Waterford and then later upgraded for other counties too. Generally I find met.ie spot on and I think in fairness there was an unexpected last minute turn taken by this depression.

AA warning on twitter at the moment of trees down in a number of locations in Wicklow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭BigMoose

Over the last hour it has been very windy here in Wicklow Town. Definitely much more than usual. In fact I can't remember this much sustained wind for a long time. Has calmed down a bit in the last few mins but am not surprised to hear trees are down.
