Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

LOI Promotion Playoff Bray Wanderers vs Longford Town

Bray have been here before and have stayed in the premier division both winning and losing the playoff. In 2009 they lost to Sporting Fingal after a hectic final few minutes in the Carlisle Grounds where Brays keeper scored and then made a horrible error to gift Fingal the playoff. They stayed up because of Derry and Cork both collapsing. In 2010 well what can you say. Mons, late drama in extra time with a late goal, a wall collapsing, an even later equaliser,a must score penalty and then a couple of Mon misses and a converted penalty for Bray keeping them up. Can they survive again this year?

Well their form was very poor in the middle of the season with a long period where they didnt win a match. But two wins in their last three helped them avoid the automatic relegation place and sent down Shelbourne. Longford started the season well and were around nine points clear at one point. Then they collapsed horrible and needed a win in their final match against Athlone to even get a playoff spot against Mervue. This they won after another crazy two matches with a last minute goal in extra time in the 2nd leg from Mervue sending the match to penalties. Mervue then missed the all of their Penos to give Longford the win and a chance to get to the Premier division for the first time since 2007.

Personally I think Bray will stay up they have some useful players like Waters and Jason Byrne and should be better then Longford who rely a lot on O'Sullivan for their goals

First leg is tonight in the Carlisle Grounds in Bray and the second leg is in the City Calling Stadium in Longford on Friday. AFAIK the matches are not on telly which is a big shame. There have been some great playoff in LOI football through the years.

4/1 for Longford is a serious price imo!

I think that was one of the times the wall collapsed too. Crazy game.

Bray should put up a statue of Jason Byrne, he's a legend.

    2-2 at fulltime.

Advantage Longford for the second leg, but it's not over yet.

    Good comeback.

Thought Bray would get 3rd and kill it off.

Very stupid to allow a two goal lead slip, mad worse that there were more chances to increase the lead at various stages.

    Gonna be a nervy Friday!

Does the away goal rule apply?

If yes, I would say, advantage Longford

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Don't think the away goal applies

Not the golden goal rule ;)

Was just imagining, Bray taking the lead and then parking the bus

It could be 30 degrees in the whole country and Bray would still find a way to be cold.

Was watching Reeling In the Years 1963 the other day, and Bray is described as 'the most squalid and sordid seaside resort in Europe':pac:

Oddly last Friday night was the warmest I've ever been in Bray and it was the end of October. I've been there freezing my balls off in the middle of June.

I don't envy you. Our seven years in a row down there was Hell. Lots of respect for fans of teams in the first that endure week after week of that.

Soon time for round two. The nerves are killing me! Time to escape Dublin and head to the Midlands.

I genuinely have no idea how it will go. I just hope and pray to whatever gods we can beat them and escape!

Momentum surely with Longford on the back of their come back. I'd fancy Longford to go up, but saying that Bray have the players to pull themselves through.

Hows Longfords fitness these days? They flew out of the blocks vs Drogheda in the cup game but were flat out by the hour mark, they cant really afford that to happen again tonight.

lots of injuries but the fitness has looked good the last few games.. Bray looked more tired on Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,496 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

The nerves are terrible today. I think Bray missed the chance on Monday to put the onus on Longford.

Best of luck to them too!

No idea who to cheer for, wish I could watch it, fecking rugby.

Edit: and Bray one up after a minute!
