Is there a difference for gaming between W8.1 normal and W8.1 pro?

    None whatsoever.

All yoi get extra with Pro is BitLocker, RDP Host and domain logon (and the right to a free downgrade to Windows 7 Professional).

true but pro has less useless bloatware in it

i have 5x dell optiplexes 170l (p4 2.8ghz with 2gb ddr 400 ram) running win 7 pro and they run perfectly

i tried win 7 home premium before switching to win 7 pro

with win 7 home premium they were slow and took ages to boot

with win 7 pro they run really fast for ancient pcs im actually impressed by how slimline win 7 pro is...

have two test computers in work one is win 8.1 and one is win 8.1 pro... both systems are the same spec the win 8.1 pro is by far the better os... much quicker and cleaner

Your bloat is OEM related, nothing to do with Microsoft.

Where can I buy one:D, or should I say where can I not buy one.

BSU - would think you should be able to strip out the bloatware from the Dell install, most should come with uninstallers.

Is there any real alternative to Pro for domain logon, any third party options for non-Pro or is that locked down? (both from tech pov and license pov.)
    Can AD see any alternatives?

was a freebie from MSFT. You'd have to be affiliated with a partnering company

    222 yoyos on Amazon.

Jeez, Microsoft must be laughing all the way to the bank when some punks start spreading rumours that Pro is soooo much better if you want to play game XYZ. Or maybe they are the punks... :D

It apparently relates to tweaks brought in with DX11.1. Although home will work just as fine for gaming, once you don't need RD support I can't see the reason to choose Pro
