Looking for an exotic house plant or potted flower?

I want to get a present for someone who loves exotic flowers/plants.

I'm totally useless when it comes to anything like this so don't know where to start. She has had a couple of potted Orchids before and even though I know she loves them, they are always of the pink & white variety.

I wouldn't mind getting her an Orchid but I'd love if I could source an unusual colored one like black or blue - are these available in Ireland?

I'm on a tight enough budget. Someone else last Christmas bought her a mad looking yoke! but she was crazy about it - wouldn't know how to go describing it and not a million years would I recall the name.

It was a red/orange colour, in a pot, grew up the way, very vertical, tall and had waxy very green leaves almost like aloe vera plant leaves. It was a real eye-catcher.

Anyone got any suggestions of something I could source relatively easily for around the €20 mark that's a bit wow and indoor specific please.

Not sure where you are situated, but I was in the Dove Hill centre (near Clonmel) in the gardening shop and they had some very well grown pitcher plants that were catching flies with great efficiency! http://www.carnivorous--plants.com/pitcher-plant.html

How about a bromeliad, not too expensive at £15. These people were a display at Chelsea and do mail order and this one's flower looks startling:

    or a succulent

or try for something else from a Chelsea display

The first one is beautiful thanks a million. Something she'd definitely be into.

No :-) they are actually quite elegant! You put a little bit of water in the pitcher and flies fall in and create 'liquid feed'! Which does not sound very appealing but you really have to look very carefully to see into the pitchers. A 'plant person' would probably be quite entertained.

The first thing I thought was a pitcher plant. They're easy to keep and look fabulous, as well as being useful.

Are you any good with computers by any chance? Have tried looking for help in the computer thread but to no avail.

Bought a new asus zenbook a couple of months ago, love it to bits but downloaded firefox and no flash. Have installed it and uninstalled it numerous times with no solution.

I love firefox. Haven't tried to see if it works with another IE or Chrome etc because I don't really want to change from firefox, don't know why it doesn't work.

Always the same message 'your flash player has crashed. Error. Continue script or cancel?'

I am no expert and don't know anything about firefox, but to overcome a similar problem with internet explorer I downloaded chrome so that if something dosnt work in IE I just try it in chrome. Simply copy the web address across.

I may be a specific setting that you have altered or has been altered for you.

Have you up to date antivirus?
Something mat have been downloaded that is preventing your FF extentions running properly. You may have to pinpoint exactly what is doing that and delete it.
Maby a manual deletion of all the extentions may help, it is very difficult to diagnose from here

From a quick search This may help:

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script

    or this

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
    • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

Wow, great answer Oldtree, thanks for taking the time to answer. I have tried a couple of your suggestions in the past but I haven't tried Chrome, I will give that a go and let you know, thanks again.
