Graduation ceremony

We are attending our sons graduation tomorrow. Does anyone know how fussy they are about only two guests? We don't want to abandon our sons girlfriend to wander the campus for a couple of hours since we are all traveling down from Dublin. The two of them are attending the ball later. Any suggestions?
