"Crisis-plagued Greece was thrown into further turmoil on Friday after two members of the far-right Golden Dawn party were shot dead in what police called a "terrorist attack" outside one of the organisation's offices in Athens."

So what do people think- with the austerity being imposed on the people there, the growing support of both far-right and far-left parties and the previous existence of small paramilitary/ terrorist groups active in years past, is there a significant risk of low-scale civil conflict in Greece in the coming years?

It's all a bit disconcerting alright.

To begin with we saw the rise of the Golden Dawn party which was not dissimilar to the NSDAP in it's social strategy, as much as it's paramilitary one.

Then we saw a crackdown on the Golden Dawn party. What disturbs me there is that it happened, conveniently, a bit too quickly after the murder of an anti-fascist musician and the nature or validity of the charges have not exactly been publicized. That the Western media has not commented on this either, is also quite disturbing.

And now this latest round of politically motivated violence.

Given this, it's not yet blown up into full scale civil conflict, and it is likely (so long as Greece does manage a recovery) that it'll never get to that. But nonetheless, the danger remains that a rapid escalation, prompted by a new crises event, may push it into critical mass.

    Euro, not EU.
