Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Expected lineup Newcastle-United-v-Chelse-001.jpg

Chelsea are not the team Alan Pardew would have wanted the weekend after losing at Sunderland. With Newcastle having won only one league game at home this season, and Chelsea on a hot streak, this promises to be a tough afternoon for Pardew's talented but inconsistent team. It hardly helps the Geordie cause that injuries dictate Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor, Newcastle's best central-defensive pair, are unavailable to try to halt the Fernando Torres renaissance. Louise Taylor

    Kick-off today 12.45pm

    Venue St James' Park

Last season Newcastle 3 Chelsea 2

    Live BT Sport 1

    Referee L Mason

    This season G6, Y23, R1, 4.2 cards per game

    Odds H 5-1 A 8-13 D 31-10

    I reckon 3-1 Chelsea.

Im not sure will Luiz or Cahill start though and its touch and go between Mata, Schurrle or Willian to play alongside Oscar and Hazard.

Liking that front 4, Newcastle's centre half pairing look very dodgy.

Our record up north is very sketchy so I wouldnt write it off just yet....

Newcastle sitting in making things difficult, can they keep it up all day though?

Could end up being a rout the way this is going.

Jose's loyalty to Lampard needs to take a back seat me thinks. He is very much a passenger in almost every game this season thus far, today so far has been poor his passing and set piece taking just isn't what it used to be anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,829 ✭✭✭✭Panthro

Torres is a man reborn under Jose.

Setting up to defend win you can't defend for sh1t is setting up to fail.

Players unable to control the ball or pass it 3 yards.

Matter of time and how many

We havent being threatening yet apart from the corner, if it goes to HT at 0-0 Newcastle will be the happier anyway.

1 decent pass so far this game <<<< he has been terrible of late and doesn't deserve a starting place.

I'd agree with ya, only other option is Mikel or Luiz really.

Nufc have been utterly garbage all year. If ye don't create anything we will gift ye a goal. Pass percentage and failure to clear a stats must be horrible...

Would love to see Luiz Ramires in there.

Ye managed to get a 0-0 with City up to the 90mins didnt ye?

Are there 4 Terrys in defense?!
    He's everywhere!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Everything is just to slow from us, no urgency.

    Passenger again so far.

Was city reserves for a start. The game before was against a team who have won 3 games this year. 2 against us.

No confidence whatsoever in the team. Pretty much every player has been under performing for months now.

Williamson starting is equivalent to starting 1 down.

3rd worst defense in the league last year is the third worst this year so far. Funny that

Jasis awful marking for the corner. Great through ball by the Chelsea player to.start the counter. About the only way we can create is a deflected pass

This is reminding me of the everton game TBH.

Sh*te half, 0-0 is pretty fair at this stage.

Hazard needs to stop going down so bloody easily.

In fairness to Tiote,he's been very good again today. I was the lad's harshest critic over the last year but he's really starting to rediscover that form again.

Looked like an inevitability up to the 30th min. Nufc much improved since. Just need to survive the Pardew ht team talk now!

Poor stuff so far. Chelsea with all the ball but not up to much in the final third. Newcastle defending well.

Looks like it may take a set piece to win this one, but it's a game that title challengers really need to take three points from.

If Chelsea score one Newcastle should fold like a deck of cards but while it's 0-0 they could easily pop up with one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

I do just wonder about the Ramires/Lampard midfield duo in a tight game like this. Very congested, Newcastle not pressing the two centre backs but once it goes into midfield they are challenging the first touch and the question is if Lampard and Ramires have the ability to resist that challenge and if their teammates trust them enough to play it to feet even if they are under pressure because right now the best out ball looks like being through David Luiz.

Maybe just lacking a bit of pace in forward areas at the moment too, wouldn't be overly surprised to see Schurrle or Willian fairly early in the second half.

I thought Ginola would have been sacked.

Dreadful first half of football. Newcastle have no intention of attacking and the team Mourinho has out there and the way he has them lined up doesn't look like they have enough to break them down. If Chelsea make positive changes at the break, they can run away with this.

Whip Lamps bring on Cahill, Luiz into CM.
