I see sony are at there lying/ being smug state again with andrew house coming out and making alot of stupid comments recently like how they are struggling to keep in the demand for ps vita. really andrew ? judging by those NPD numbers says you are full of ****

If you make feck all you only need to sell a shade more than feck all to struggle with demand

    *edit*

    damnit. beaten to it

I think they sold over 55k PSVs the month before due to the release of Borderlands 2, so supply would also have been an issue.

The Vita is doing quite well in Japan. Elsewhere it's really struggling and sales are mostly up because of it being sold off at bargain prices.

The rise of smart phones over the last 5 years has spelled complete death for handhelds like the Vita. It simply cant succeed and we likely wont see a new one from Sony.

The 3ds succeeded because its a Pokémon/Mario/Zelda/RPG machine. That's it really. No other handheld has that so it wont sell well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭richymcdermott

It did not help with sony handling on the vita making it too expensive and the pricing off the cards was stupid aswell.

I got a vita 2 years ago because persona 4 golden and gravity rush but sony really wanted to push the vita as a console experience on the go but I would preferred if they made games solely for handheld experience than something I can just play on my ps3.

and instead of trying to keep the vita from going completely dead sony comes out and says there will be less in house games for the vita.

wow fantastic sony you really are a great company to your 8 million install base for people who bought a vita.

The Vita is suffering from the same problems as the WiiU. There's no presence in the market. Ask common or garden joe soap and they won't know what the PS Vita is. Sony had no faith in the even at launch product and have done very little to promote it.

It's a shame because it's a fabulous machine with a library not far off the 3DS and it makes a far better purchase than any of the 3 home consoles.

The handheld duo of Vita and 3DS reflects the home choices.
Comparing Vita and 3DS is actually meaningless, they are very different machines with broadly different games available, both are well worth owning as the truly great exclusives on each need to be played by anyone who says they love games.
The same choices are reflected in the differences between XB1/PS4 and WiiU, with the strengths and weaknesses of each format given rise to some stunning titles on each.
It's actually a pity there is relatively little between the XB1 and PS4, not enough to differentiate between them, to make one more attractive than the other, or at least that each had a prominent character of its own.

Sony imo seem happy for the Vita to be used soley as a leg up for the PS4 via the remote access capabilitly promotion wise.
And being honest for this reason I will probably go with a PS4 eventually rather than the xboxOne.

So you have to ask yourself how many others would buy a PS4 if they knew they could play it on a Vita while their missus watches Hollyoaks?

I really think they're underplaying this big time. Same with Nintendo and the off screen play. I play 90% of my Wii U time on the gamepad for this reason.

Outside of remote play though both Wii U and Vita have seriously good libraries of games to suit every type of gamer. Its a shame their ignored.

I think the cost of removable storage is a massive obstacle for new purchasers. Knowing you'll have to drop close to a ton on a reasonably sized memory card on top of the console itself is hardly enticing

8gb cards arent expensive and are plenty unless your playing 5 games at the same time.

Play game, delete, load on, repeat is the way I work it.

You can download the games from plus as well without having to load them to the memory card until you want to play them.

Dont get me wrong a bigger card for a cheaper price would be great but realistically its just the start of another backlog.

In my humble opinion remote play is one of the best Next gen features. Funny enough I was looking forward to it a lot, but now I dont use it at all, because I moved my Gaming TV in to bedroom and Bedroom TV in to Living room ( we had no TV in there as there was no need for it, barely anyone in the house watches TV ). So misses just watches netflix in living room and I can play away in bedroom as much as I want.

As much as I love remote play, ps vita is a bit **** for it. I just cant get used to those tiny thumbsticks. If someone really needs Remote play, I would recommend wii U for it as ( I think ), it works better, has better range and quality. Controls and controller ergonomics just Vastly superior too.

Only one telly in my house which is used by the wife and child for the most part.

As for remote play I cant understand why Sony didnt add on the 2nd shoulder buttons and make the thumbsticks clickable for the likes of FPS's etc.. Its the only gripe I have with the vita though tbh.

The Wii U has the remote play down. Its a joy to play remotely but it is a large chunk of console in your hands lets be honest here. The Vita has the added benifit of leaving the house with you.

Both have really helped me get back in to gaming in the past year.

I was speaking more of an in house use. Wii U pad would not be great idea to carry around lol. Thing is that all my handheld consoles are all in house handhold consoles. My ps vita and 3ds/xl pretty much never left my home. I understand design of PS vita, but when I am using them in home only, I prefer wii U gamepad.
I actually even prefer 3DS circle pads over ps vita thumbsticks. They are just not great when you need to be accurate, or just half use them. A huge issue when I tried playing Metal gear HD. Sneaking in it is pretty much impossible by using thumbstick.
The other issue that I have with ps vita and 3ds is that they make my hands tired very fast. Something that I dont have issue with on Wii U gamepad and 3ds XL.

Just on Wii U topic: I did not had a chance to play much of it, but the game pad and gamepad pro controller are fantastic so far. I though Wii U controller will feel bulky and uncomfortable, but I got used to it so fast, that I could not believe it. Thumbstics are fecking orgasmic on it.

tbh if you are comparing wii u to ps4 i agree the wii u thumbsticks are class

I am comparing them to PS4, PS3, 360, PS vita. I have not tried Xbox one.

Pretty sure xbox one are the best ones in the world and they will be used soon to navigate spaceships by Nasa.

So Destiny is great, buy it if you've either console or last gen or buy something to play it.

Why? Sure they can just control the mars rover using the Kinect! :P

Can you imagine the press conference from NASA, "I'm afraid the billion dollar probe was lost due to Bob the mission specialist's living room being too small and he sneezed during the landing process"
"We recognise now we should have used his Wii mote instead"

Genuine non-troll question. Can I copy all my PS3 saves and digital games over to the PS4 if I get it.
Can I play PS1 games on the PS4? I have Hogs of War and love playing that as I use a digital memory card on the PS3.
Will it play Blu Rays too?

I'm really excited by the feedback on the Destiny Alphas and Betas and feel like I might just make the jump to next gen in 6 weeks as a result

No, in terms of games, PS4 is basically just PS4 only. No backwards compatibility. They are going to introduce a feature called PS Now, where you can stream PS1-PS3 games and play them that way on your PS4, but don't know when it'll be publicly available (think it's in Beta now)

But yes, it can play BluRays. Only downside is I don't think any PS4 remotes have been released yet which means you have to use the controller. Minor enough issue though.

But the PS3 Plays back 3D blu rays right? Or have I wasted all this time assembling a 3D blu ray collection :(

ya ps3 plays them and the xbox one will do next month dont know why sony didnt include it given they have a sizable investment in blu ray

Probably same as MS to get the basics working right and add on afterwards

Can Blu Ray playback compatibility be fixed via an update?

yep its a relatively simple update iirc since the ps4 already can output 3d easily. The ps3 blu ray player was afaik one of the best on the market even though it was one of the oldest because of constant updates

3d wasnt a thing when the ps3 came out

everything is designed with updating in mind nowadays

Well I guess I won't be able to sell my PS3 so then, since I never know when I'll want to play the games I have on it again. Pity upgrading consoles isn't as straight forward a win as it was in the past

I honestly dont think any of the next gen consoles have enough to warrant the upgrade yet (at least to the stage of ditching a last gen console. hell im still considering buying a ps3 (for ico/sotc/mgs/P5 and a 360 (all my rockband dlc is still on it)

The last gen was the first gen that has a permanent pull for people with the likes of DLC and digital games and the new gen is the first that seems to do less than its predecessor

I finally ditched the oul PS3 last week, I didn't get much usage out of it since I got the ps4, bar the odd GTA online match, with TLoU and GTA V moving over to PS4 for me there wasn't much need to be hanging onto it...

I'm sure 3d support will come with an update soon enough, they have added a few new BR things with certain updates...

I never used the media server end of PS3 but a lot of people swore by it and I think they are bring that back with updates...
