Have noticed some shoots of the bulbs I planted recently coming up already. Should these be covered over winter for frost protection?

    Thanks

There might be some expert opinions, but I never do.

I was surprised to see them so early but thought it was because of the mild weather. Then again they're a variety I haven't planted before

    What are they paddylonglegs?

Daffs and natives would be hardy.... if it was something more exotic, maybe not. Depends too if they are just up early, or if they were planted slightly too shallow.

Will check what type they are over weekend. Can't remember off the top of my head

Hi. The bulbs are called allium sphaerephalom (sp). They apparently get quite big

I have those and are not showing yet - did you plant them about 10cm down ? They grow quite tall so need to be planted fairly deep.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
