Well to be fair that's what Will Leahy has been presenting for the last 10 years.

If will Leahy or the majority of DJs didn't have streams of messages coming in to read out how would they fill their show?

And on that topic, if Will Leahys new Breakfast show on RATE Gold is voice tracked like someone has suggested how will he manage with text messages coming in?

Sure rte gold doesn't even have a text number.

Having Larry Gogan as much of a legend as he is on when the sun is out is madness. You look at what the Beeb have done with Annie Nightingale - last time I checked she was alive and on BBC Radio 1 but on a pre-record in the middle of the night. I know I'm comparing the world's greatest radio station against 2FM but the Beeb do specialist music nights on their flagship 20-35 age group radio station - why do we have to listen to Faithless or Snap with Jenny Greene as a station and a nation have we and dance music not moved on from that...

Think moving the Electric Disco to the earlier time is a bad move.

Was in the car on Saturday evening and happened to find Near FM - they were playing some mellow house...

Lost the signal and turned to 2FM - Jenny playing some hard dance track (not hard house) that jarred with the time slot and just wasn't a great tune.

Larry should not have to follow the playlist on the Golden Hour, an exception should be made for him so that the music can at least go back to the 80s.

There should be no golden hour or 80's on a station aimed at people mostly likely born after the 80's.

I think the Saturday evening\ night is a mess. You have Jenny playing dance, Then Mo K playing Rap Hip Hop, then more dance from Mr Spring.
Would it not be better to have the two dance shows back to back as before? More of a natural flow type thing ? Does any of the top brass as 2FM know anything about musical genres?

I just think the Hip Hop thing thrown in between the two dance shows doesn't work.

    It's a controversial move alright.

Or get rid of all of them :D

Does anyone agree that an Eoghan McDermott/Laura Whitmore double act show would be good for BBC Radio 1? Indeed when the former left XFM there was speculation he would join R1 but it never happened. He said in an interview he actually turned down a slot on Capital. And as for Laura she has popped up on his drivetime show a good few times! Maybe "Eoghra McDermore" should replace Grimmy when he leaves, but not that I see that happening any time soon.

He'd have to drop the "love you...bye" first off at the behest of Scott Mills.

How are you still on about Laura Whitmore? Are you her agent!!

    Just. Making. A. Suggestion.

Actually, this would be my ideal 2FM weekday lineup:
    07:00 Danny Wallace
    10:00 Ian Camfield
    13:00 Dan O'Connell
    16:00 Eoghan McDermott
    20:00 Mary Anne Hobbs
    22:00 John Kennedy

Ah, the circa-2011 XFM line up. Halcyon days. EMD still uses some of his features from the old show (eg Pundown at Sundown) on his current show. :-)

It's the Xfm lineup from six years ago. As a 17 year old I listened to the station almost religiously. It was EMD's trial to break the UK market but it looks like he failed. Which is a shame because he could have been a big star over there.

After this weeks JNLR figures 2fm has slightly pulled ahead of Today FM in total listeners

Dan Healy cleared out loads of presenters across the weekday & weekend lineup over the past 4 years

So I think that the man deserves some credit for the way he has turned things around

I didn't think that he could do it but he has

Fair play to him, the station is in my opinion in a better way than it was when John McMahon was in charge.

He has 2fm's daily ratings on a par with Today fm so do people here think he has done a good job?

Given that Today FMs numbers have plummeted since Willie O'Reilly left and 2fm are still well shy of the numbers it was achieving ten years ago I'd say he's not been successful. He changed it dramatically but there is no evidence that he improved it.

2fm is never going to have the numbers it had 10 years ago

Today fm is also never again going to get near it's high numbers from the past

I think that RTE wanted Dan Healy to match Today FM's numbers of the present & the man has done it

Listernship and viewership figures have decreased across the board compared to 10 years ago.

    The market is more diluted.

When 2fm’s figures were in the gutter 5/6 years ago it was the fault of the man in charge. Yet when they are seeing substantial gains it’s just circumstance, nothing to do now with the PD.

I don’t listen to Breakfast Republic but they got an awful roasting here when they took over the gig and for quite a while. All quite now.

    Congratulations to 2fm.

Eoghan McDermott's drivetime show is now a talk oriented show with the odd bit of music.

Could really do with a "more music drive" type of show. There's enough talk on Radio 1, Today FM and Newstalk at the same time. I'm not sure who he's trying to appeal to who would rather listen to him than the other 3 national stations.

When he was on XFM it was the other way around. Now it is as if he was never on that station at all.

Eoghan McDermott says in this month's VIP that he has "unfinished business" over in London. He also reveals that he narrowly lost out to Matt Richardson to present Xtra Factor back in 2015, and that he would have worked on The Voice Of The UK's spin-off show but it was cancelled at the last moment. He also says he wants to visit Japan and South America in 2018.

Eoghan McDermott is going no where fast with this love you trash and verified listener. Jenny Greene needs to ease back on the annoying laugh.

According to yesterday's Sunday business post, RTE are to axe news on 2fm from 7pm/6am for cost reasons. I think they should go Atlantic 252 and axe news completely. Interestingly rte are perfectly entitled to not have news on their radio stations.

They could also axe seats from the studio! Didn't the deejays on Atlantic 252 have to stand up while doing their shows?!

I thought as a condition of their licence they had to have almost hourly news? This is the case for 98fm, FM104, Spin etc.
