Our chimney went on fire this afternoon, only been lighting it for the past few weeks and we had it cleaned last year. The firemen pointed out damage to the chimney so we'll need to get it repaired and I'm looking for someone reliable names to give me quotes for the insurance company.

    Thanks in advance

Yeah 'dude' I know that, and I've posted in the Clare forum. I'm just looking for recommendations, not breaking any laws:rolleyes:

Deleted the duplicate thread as requested, I've also moved this from Limerick to Clare.

There is a company called Finns that specialise in this kind of thing. I would line the chimney with a stainless steel flue and put in a Stanley or some other stove.

OP, the same thing happened my parents about four years ago. They used a company called
Multiflue Thermal Lining Systems (Galway). They fitted a stainless steel flue and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. They were a little bit more expensive than other quotes at the time but they did extra work - plastering and painting. My parents went through their insurance so everything was covered.

I'm about to get work done by a fella from Lissycasey, John Meelican. Have heard a lot of good reports about him. I doubt he is the cheapest but very good at what he does. If it's a big job and you have house insurance, might be something to consider. It takes on average 4-5 months to sort that out but you could be lucky and get faster people. Sorry just saw its for insrance quotes. He does that too

    Hi Pumpinseeds,

do you have an update - did you get the work done - who did it and what was your impression?

I have a damp chimney too - it's been there a long time and the damage is slight, but slowly getting worse.

We haven't had it done yet. There's been a lot going on and it hasn't been a priority. I'll have to get it sorted soon though, I can't say I miss the fire.
