I've got a Netgear WNDR3700 router which I just successful flashed DD-WRT on and I want to put my current Eircom Netopia 2247-62 Modem\Router into bridge mode and turn off the wireless so it acts only
as a modem and then connect my Netgear to it via an ethernet cable and use the Netgear as my router.

I've enabled bridge mode and disabled the wireless on the Netopia.

Then I connected a LAN cable from port 1 of the Netopia to the Netgear router, I've tried connecting it to the internet point and to the ethernet port 1, but neither seems to work. I can see the wifi signal of the Netgear router, but it doesn't have an internet connection.

I want to use the Netgear's DNS capabilities, so I'm not sure which device should handle the DHCP, but I've tried disabling DHCP on both devices separately and neither seemed to work.

Finally, the Netgear and the Netopia have differnt IP address Netgear is http://192.168.1.1 and Netopia is http://192.168.1.254/ so I initially assumed I didn't have to change anything, but I have even tried changing the Netgear's address to http://192.168.2.1 and it still didn't work.

Am I missing something else here?

Yes, you are only half way there, you need to setup PPPoE on the Wan interface of the Netgear so it gets your public IP

    Username: eircom@eircom.net
    Password: broadband1

The Netgear would be your router, enable DHCP on this

Thanks smee again! I'll try that tonight and let you know how I get on..

Do I need to change the Netgear's address to http://192.168.2.1?

Should I connect the LAN cable from the Netopia to the internet connection point or to the ethernet port 1 on the Netgear?

Thanks ViperKevin, but there doesn't seem to be an autos choose option. I'm looking to upgrade my router anyway, but I'm still not 100% convinced it's the router, since I know someone else with the same phone and the same issue with their router and if you just google this, you'll see there are thousands of people who have WiFi issues with Xperias.

You connect from a lan port of the Netopia to Wan of the Netgear (port 1 as you call it). It does not matter what address you give the Netgear, leave it on default if you like, the Netopia will be a bridge and so it will not matter.

    Hi Smee again,

I thought I did everything right, but when I saved and reset the Netopia router after making the required changes it stated "Autosensing PPPoE/DHCP" and hung up like that for ages, I did a reboot of the router, but it didn't work. In the end I had to do a reset to get the Netopia back to factory settings. I don't think I did anything wrong, but I'll try again at the weekend and see how it goes. I thought I had killed the Netopia, but at least I got back to normal eventually.

If you go into Expert Mode on the Netopia and select Connection there should be an option to enable/disable bridging. You won't have a connection to the outside world until you add PPPoE to the Wan of the Netgear
