    Hi
Hope someone might point me in the right direction,ok heading up to Dublin for a night out on Saturday week.We are a couple in our late 30's and are looking for a good venue to have a few drinks, not into the packed club scene any more so maybe a live band, comedy or a late bar with good DJ.
We will be staying in and around Stephens green area so walking distance preferred. Also want to stay away from the whole temple bar area if possible and another advantage would be if we could book a table just for the two of use.
    Thanks

Whelans on Wexford street might suit you, live music.. but can get quite full later on a saturday night. But it's Saturday night, so thats true of most venues.

Maybe the Duke or Sinnotts. Or that 37 Dawson Street place.

Whelans isnt great as a couple. It gets busy and unless you get there early you won't really get a seat but it is fun. The international comedy club (www.theinternationalcomedyclub.com) do cheap enough comedy gigs at the weekend, usually €10 for 3-4 acts. Will you be going for dinner beforehand? You could try The port house, there are 2 of them, one more dark and romantic than the other. Georges St and Wexford street are your best bet for pubs, including the globe (ri-ra's), Hogan's, no name bar, solas, the village and then Whelans. Bruxelles off Grafton st is also a decent spot.

On the quays there is Bison Bar and Workmans club and on the north quays there is The grand social. It really depends on the type of music and place you like. I am not a dawson street/Harcourt st gal so these would be my taste and would have a decent enough crowd etc.

You could try the black door on Harcourt street. nice venue and they have live musicians, nothing too heavy.

Also the odeon on Harcourt street. its a very nice bar and its large.

House on Leeson street is a converted Georgian house with garden. novel theme for a late bar/club/

searsons in baggot village have a live iano bar on a Saturday night and there are plenty of good eateries in the area. especially asador and the argentine place across the road from it.

Grand social could be an option, depending on what is on.

All the dawson street places are likely to be very busy so maybe not what you are after.

The" dame district" has a lot of places that do bands. sweeneys mongrel, 4 dame lane, the mercantile etc...though all can be busy on a sat night.
