A river with a flow rate of 2 m3/sec and a chloride level of 10mg/l receives a mine drainage discharge with a flow rate of 0.25 m3/sec with a chloride concentration of 1000 mg/l.

    1. Determine the downstream flow rate
    2. Determine the downstream chloride concentration level
    3. What assumptions are made in 2.
    4. What is the downstream chloride concentration during a winter flood when the river flow rate is 11 m3/sec?
Comment on the results from 4

    Could any help?

Take a look at the discharges as a mass of chloride per second divided by the total flow per second. Total flow and answer to q1 is 2.25 m3/s to get you started

Thanks for that would the answer be 2.27kg/s of chloride concentration? suspend load = QxC

    2.25m^3/s X 1010mg/L X103 = 2272500 = 2.27kg/s
