I also use boiling water for the pot, reduces the overall brewing time. In terms of grind, it is recommended to use a slightly coarser than espresso grind - however, as most shop-sold espresso grinds are really not that fine, I find they work fine in my moka pot. Lavazza and Illy work particularly well.

Ultimately, it is propably worthwhile to invest in a coffee grinder (I have one that cost about €20), buy some decent beans and grind freshly in morning to as fine a grind as this grinder will alllow (which is still coarser than true espresso grind). I also use a Brita filter for the water, which makes a pronounced difference.

    Hey thanks for the reply,
I initially used the espresso grind but found it too fine, so I am now using a courser grind. I must try the fine grind again cause my coffee is very hit and miss at the moment.

where did you get your grinder?

    thanks

I got mine as a present a couple of years ago, it's a Bodum C-Mill I believe, same as attached (only link I could find)

    http://www.kitchenessence.ie/product_detail.php?uniqueID=92

I believe it can be found for closer to €25-30, but cannot find any online Irish links at that price.

It's a decent grinder, but after abandoning it for others, I have come back to it in the last few months and realised that it does a much better job for me than others in that price range.

That Bodum grinder is €52 on Ebay!

There is a good grinder with good reviews in Argos for €20

    Great thanks for the link.

Christmas is coming up so I might add it to my ever growing list!
