    You're right, you can't always repay before renewal and avoid a hit to your NCB. Sometimes there just isn't enough time before renewal.

    But if the case is settled and you have reimbursed your insurer all before renewal time you certainly can avoid a claim recorded against your policy and an NCB hit.

    Even if the OP lost their NCB(don't most policies have some sort of step-back clause?), it probably wouldn't come to €1,100 anyway.
