Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mike Oldfield had a really good album in the 90's called Voyager...

    Must listen to it again.

I remember listening to an 8 track cartridge of TB's in the Brother-in-laws Gold Ford Cortina driving around going nowhere.

We thought we were so hip!....:D

The cassette was the size of bag of sugar!

Don't really dig Mike Oldfield either.

Maybe I am on a downer this weekend? :-)

Was the synth stuff any good?

I'll say this for BBC Four, they don't feel compelled to have a misery slot every night.

Ah, Sparks. I don't know much about them but I did give them a slot in the OP of this thread :)

I had a mad crush on the lad from the Human League.

We used to call him "head and a half"....

There may have been drink involved.

One of them should have broken character and given a cheeky grin and wink to the camera when the singer wasn't watching :)

It's all very serious, this Synth lark.

I'm trying to remember how we actually danced to this....

I think you just stood and swayed a bit.

Exhausting when you think about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,675 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

Serious, broody, intense and substantial. Oh, and comically self important.

Wonder what they were like backstage. All laughs and giggles I bet.

Ultravox - Does this mean anything to you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

This was Number 1 for about six months.

    Same video every Thursday.

Now that was the real meaning of Broody.

It reminds me of the Father Ted Disco where they only have one record

It must have been a hard auld station. Hopefully the DJ would have put on a bit of Slade or something occasionally to lift the mood.

There was a little bit of head bopping as well.

And then the Mammy would expect you to get up for Mass the next morning........

For some reason I keep getting Fr. Ted in my head.

I think the Producer is partially to blame here.

Some of these bands had other songs which weren't as dour. I'm going to wait until the credits to see if a Mr R. Tubridy was involved, when he was moonlighting at the Beeb.

That's it! Or the talent show before Ted and the lads do the three Elvises.

I'm enjoying it Mr. Killjoy Skid....:)

Though they could have done a better job on New Order.

They sound as if they are in a cave or an RTE studio!

I don't want to be Pedantic Pat here, but ...
The single was released on Chrysalis Records on 15 January 1981, and is notable for spending 4 consecutive weeks at #2 in the UK singles chart without ever getting to #1.[1] "Vienna" was kept off the UK #1 slot by John Lennon's "Woman" for a week, and then by Joe Dolce's novelty hit, "Shaddap You Face", for a further 3 weeks,[2]

Joe Dolce! I remember that. Itsa not so bad, Itsa nicea place.

Yeah, I've two versions of this song. One is very poppy and chirpy. The other is a bit like this.

New Order were class, some great songs.

You can imagine the discussions which went on

"OK, New Order meeting, everyone settle down. That was a fairly broody performance on TOTP, but then Depeche Mode Broodied us off the stage.

We must be broodier, things are moving on. We don't want to look like the Minipops when we play the Whistle test with The Human League next week"

Mark and Kelly from the SNS tonight would keep Max Factor in business with the eye liner sales...

I loved to have organised the playlist for tonight.

Alison Moyet was kicked out of Yazoo and the Synth Society after this performance.

    Far too chirpy.
