Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This song kept Fairytale of New York off the Christmas Number One.

    And deservedly so. It's Ace.

Just watching "The Joy of Easy Listening". I don't think it's fair to lump Herb Alpert into the Richard Clayderman and James Last genre. Alpert founded A&M Records and had some great original instrumental tunes by his own right.

Early heads up for next Friday - Classic Albums 9 PM - Deep Purple "Made in Japan" which is the album that made me a Purplehead (which sounds smutty! :o)

There's a late night Horslips concert on TG4 at 12.30 this evening, although it's only 30 minutes long
    Horslips - Ar Staitse
Restored footage of the band in concert at the National Stadium in Dublin in 1976, including performances of Furniture, Johnny's Wedding and Never Too Late

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Seriously 12.30 AM? Still I wouldn't have watched as it can only be seen on crappy SD saorview in my house.

Hello, Imelda May began her music show last week. It's a thinly veiled rip off of/homage to Later with Jools Holland, but sure didn't Jools himself appear on it to give his blessing.

Bizarrely, TG4 are showing an old series of Later with Jools Holland from 2008. She isn't mentioned in the listing, but according to IMDB, Imelda May appears on this week's show. Circular Reference scheduling by RTE and TG4 there ...

    Thursday TG4

    11.45pm Later with Jools Holland
Chart-topper Katy Perry performs, Natalie Cole sings songs from her Still Unforgettable collection and Roots Manuva returns with tracks from his fourth album. Mercury Prize-winners Elbow also perform, along with David Gilmour, celebrating the release of a live album

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1502002/

    Friday BBC4

9.15pm and 12.15am - Deep Purple: Made in Japan New!
Documentary celebrating the 40th anniversary of Deep Purple's double live album Made in Japan and going behind the scenes to find out why it has been ranked the sixth best live album of all time. Featuring footage of the rockers during their `mark two' line-up between 1969 and 1973 and charting the friction and incessant touring the band experienced amid recording the 1972 record Machine Head in Montreux, Switzerland. The film also explores the meaning behind the song Smoke on the Water, while revealing the background to the mystery that lies behind the three nights in Osaka and Tokyo on the heavy metal act's first Japanese tour

    10.15pm & 2.15am - Heavy Metal Britannia
Documentary tracing the genre's emergence in the late 1960s, pioneered by bands including Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, who were based in the industrialised Midlands. This classic form of metal was challenged by punk in the late 1970s, before a new wave of groups such as Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Saxon reinvigorated the style. Featuring contributions by singers Ian Gillan, Glenn Tipton, Lemmy, Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford, guitarist Tony Iommi and keyboard player Jon Lord. Narrated by Nigel Planer

11.45pm - Heavy Metal at the BBC
A compilation of memorable heavy-metal performances from BBC shows, including Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Motorhead

1.15am - Thin Lizzy: Bad Reputation
A profile of the Irish rock band, including archive footage, interviews with Eric Bell, Brian Downie and the group's first manager. Formed in Dublin in 1969, the group hit a creative and commercial peak in the late 1970s with a line-up including frontman Phil Lynott and guitarists Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, but drugs and alcohol took their toll on the band. Narrated by Philip Glenister

    Saturday RTE1

12.05am - The Imelda May Show (repeat of last Sunday's programme)
featuring Jools Holland, Mary Black, Donal Lunny, Zoe Conway and Mairtin O’Connor and the Riptide Movement

    Saturday BBC4

    11.55pm - Chas & Dave: Last Orders
Documentary offering an insight into Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock's successful five decades in the music industry, which has seen them share the same bill as Led Zeppelin and make a big impact on London's cultural landscape. The film blends archive performances with more recent tour footage and features contributions by Pete Doherty, Jools Holland and Phill Jupitus. Narrated by Arthur Smith

12.55am - London Songs at the BBC
A collection of performances from the BBC archives celebrating the sights and sounds of London. The programme includes Petula Clark singing A Foggy Day in London Town in 1965, and Adele performing her love letter to the city, Hometown Glory, in October 2007. Also featuring the Jam, Eddy Grant, Tom Paxton and Lily Rose Cooper (Lily Allen)

    Sunday RTE1

9.30pm - The Imelda May Show
The singer-songwriter is joined in the studio by pop-rock band the Script, rock group Aslan, singer Derek Ryan and pop-folk duo Hudson Taylor for chat and live performances

That's about it. ITV4 are one of the few channels not featuring Jools Holland, but they do have Live and Let Die (Saturday 9pm) Adieu!

It was weird how the crowd in Belfast looked like they were dressed for mid-winter while Hyde Parks revellers (as I believe they have to be described) were definitely in late summer attire.

They sing "De Reflex", because the cheeky buggers lived in Dublin at the time (on a tax dodge), and thought the accent was funny.

    De bleedin cheek of 'em.
