    Hi there

Can anybody look up the will of a deceased person?

How and where would you go about this?

If this is allowed, is anyone advised that somebody is looking up the will?

    Many thanks for your help.

Once a grant of probate or letters of administration has issued, copies of the grant and the original will may be obtained on payment of the appropriate fee by any member of the public.

Copies of wills dating from about 1988-1990 onwards are available from the Probate Office. A copy of anything dated prior to that should be obtainable from the National Archives office in Bishop Street.

It is allowed. No one is informed that another party is accessing the record.

Note that this is only after probate has been granted. THis can take months, so if the person is recently deceased, the will will not be available to the public.
