can someone tell me how to change a wma file into either a mp3 or a wav file. i have ripped music from a cd (i apprecatehow oldschool this is but im very happy listening to my cds and have been for years) i have a new app on a tablet and it wont recognise my music as anything other than a wma. thanks people:-):-):-)

Download Audacity to convert it manually. Then import > file and then export as > .wma or whatever.

There may be a way to do this for all, but not with Audacity.

might be easier to get this,
than to use audicity ,which is mainly used for editing , recording.
it has batch convert ,ie convert 10 files, at once.

And in the future, change the windows media player option to save ripped music as MP3 instead of WMA

yeah WINDOWS media player is a good cd ripper ,with many options ,re rip quality ,128k, etc
and its installed on every windows pc.
NOTHING wrong with buying cds .
if all you pcs ,laptops stop working in 3 years , you,ll still have your cds.

After i downloaded the converter Im getting an error message suggesting i should upgrade my DirectX to 8.1 - Any ideas what this is ??

includes ,
DirectMusic, DirectPlay, DirectSound, and so forth.

so it makes sense

as it handles music ,sound playback, ,Download 8.1 and install it.
this may relate to conversion and playback of music mp3 files.


always good to have the latest version of directx anyway.
install it,reboot pc, run the convertor.

You must be using some ancient Windows ME or 2000 machine! Direct X 8.1 is standard on Windows XP

you could download an older wma to mp3 convertor,

this is a 2003 version ace high convertor.
it does not play files just converts them to mp3

If the wma files are protected/DRMed you won't easily be able to convert them without re-ripping. By default older (and possibly newer?) versions of Media Player DRM the ripped music as standard, unless the option is changed.
Also do not choose wav audio (convert to FLAC if necessary), wav files will eat up your storage pretty fast
