Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good to see no more hoofs forward by keeper and full backs. Trying to play at least. Having Ward & Whelan there is not helping but at least we are trying to do the right thing.

Thats just it, all the talk about Robbie playing in a mediocre league, he still finishes the chances that Long et al cant convert

Is this the Latvian first team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,797 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Jaysus, Robbie was slow there when he picked the ball up from midfield. Latvia look awful, but we're doing all the right things.

Robbie Keane scores his 62nd international goal, drawing level with Ronaldo and Drogba in the all-time scorers list.

    What list is that?

Yeah they are piss poor but at least we are doing things right. Passing the ball and looking to hold possession. Under Trap we hoofed it too much even against the poor teams , , against the big teams we mighnt have a lot of possession but against inferior teams there is no excuse to be hoofing the ball every few minutes.

Ward is breaking down alot of plays

Ward is the weakest link, surely there's better available for that position?

International Goals per game ratio, according to Wikipedia:

    C Ronaldo: 0.401
    L Messi: 0.446
    R. Keane: 0.477

    Hashtag Beast.

Would like to see Pearce get a run out and Wilson move to RB .Ward is looking very poor out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ward is killing all the passing moves, why is he even back involved??? Never an international standard player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

    Keane's positioning is great.

Good run but poor finish there. Hope we can get the 2nd before half time.

Latvia are no-hopers. I don't think we will learn much from this game. The Poland game will tell us more.

Looks like we will start the new regime with a win which will be a good thing.

Opposition is really poor but we are been very positive which im impressed with.

Whelan going his full repertoire of passes there.

I'm gonna have to watch this later cause my "river" has slowed to a trickle tonight :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,797 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Amusing to see the 'keeper actually playing the ball from the back.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Lennonist

Good possession football from Ireland at times. Great to see players playing with confidence again.

We should have a load of young players out tonight against a team rated lower than us.
What good is playing Keane, Whelan, Hoolihan and Ward? We want a team for the Euro's and we put out a crowd of old lads who are past it.
    Maddening.

Ah come on now, do you seriously think O'Neill is going to play a weakened team in his first game in charge? Can you imagine the backlash if we didn't win?

It's a point taken and it's somewhat valid but why bring negativity into this? we are playing football instead of hoofball for once and we look great keeping possession. This is good.

The point is that we should be blooding new players in these friendly games and preparing properly for the Euros. This is a nothing game. Most of these guys wont be around at the end of the Euros.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

So who are you blaming here? The squad was picked before a manager was secured.

I'm not disagreeing with you but who are these young lads who should have started ?

Give it a rest, Jesus Christ!

You get the team to a level and challenge the younger ones to reach it

MON obviously wants to figure out his starting eleven, it would be absolutely pointless trying out a load of young players.

I know the opposition are pish but it's great to see the Irish lads trying to pass the ball around.
