Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    You should do

We should have a load of young players out tonight against a team rated lower than us.
What good is playing Keane, Whelan, Hoolihan and Ward? We want a team for the Euro's and we put out a crowd of old lads who are past it.
    Maddening.[/]

Ah here! We have an irrational, angry fan 45 mins into the new managers term. Must be a new record.

Any of the hordes of young players in the English and Irish leagues.
We know all these old lads. Many of them won't be around in 2 years time.
Surely he could have picked a new panel or called these young lads up.
This is a waste of time except for ego tripping with a win.

It is. But I still think no matter who was in charge we would be able to pass the ball like we are tonight, the opposition is very poor. It will soon be seen if we can do the same against a team who puts more pressure on us when on the ball.

so can you actually name any of these hordes of players ?
half that starting XI will be under 30 by the time Euro 2016 starts.

    +1

Robbie Brady is about the only young player who is playing well enough at a decent level to deserve a call-up. He's crocked though.

Of course I can but that is not the point.
The point is that we have seen all these lads before and many are past it and won't be here when we are playing the last few group games. That's the point.

Would they be the lads who were playing up in Sligo this afternoon, or was that a bad selection as well?

We all know that if Trap was in charge we would not be passing the ball like we are tonight, for the simple reason that he would not have allowed it.

    You know it makes sense.
This is just an ego trip for MON and Keane.
We have seen enough of Ward, Whelan etc to know they are not up to the standard required so the search should begin now.

Why don't you name these young players for us and we can all move on?
Or you can keep digging. At least dig up man!!

That is the point, you said there is hordes of players who could be called up ,yet you haven't named any.
Squad was picked for O'Neill, who only met the players on Monday, so he hadn't much input into the selection and their was also an under21 qualifier today.
I would expect their to be plenty of new caps in March or for a B game if it goes ahead.Give the new manager a chance to get settled in .

We've played more passes tonight than we have the past 4 years! Definitely not a case of same old here. Largely in control and haven't been far off a second.

    Then we have no future.

    Walkers are better than Tayto.

    Then we have no future.

Look at the bench ffs. There's only Green and Reid who's could possibly play instead of Whelan.

If Green was playing you'd be moaning no doubt and Reid won't play as one of a two-man midfield in pretty much any competitive game so there's no point playin him either.

MO'N didn't even pick the squad.

Whelan needs to get a rest now. 2 lovely passing moves ended cos of him.

    Oh, I agree.

I am just saying it's the same old Ireland as in we can't put the game beyond doubt.

Great to see Reid lining out, game needs him.

Nice goal from decent pressure, McGeady looks relieved.

    I don't think you can.

There are lots there who could be tried. I know Robbie Brady is injured at the moment but there are others. Young Bamford from Chelsea is a great prospect and i'm sure there are others.
Continuing to play the same players who have failed previously is not preparing for the Euros in my opinion. We should be trying loads of young players.
Beating the likes of Latvia 5 nil is not going to tell us anything.

Firstly MON didn't pick the squad. Secondly, if you are so interested in the youth players you will know they had their own game earlier today. Ridiculous complaint.

Come on man.. I get the point you're making but look at it in context - ok so it means nothing in the scheme of things, but this performance will do some of these players (and the fans) the world of good after their treatment in the Trap era.
