Just wondering whats your opinion on them.

For example would there be a big difference between :

    softwaredevelopment.ie and software-development.ie

Any kind of adverse affects by using dashes?

One that springs to mind is when saying the name to people

i.e having to say software dash development dot ie

dashes are often ignored for websites or mistaken for underscore … so potential clients are possibly lost and sometimes to competitors.

Dashes in domains are awful. Imagine explain the domain to your mum.

"It's something something dash something dot com."

    Mum:"Somethingsomethingdashsomething.com"
    "Somethingsomething/something.com"

Now think of everyone other person on the Internet.

If you can avoid it avoid it.

.ie domain names aren't in short supply, there's no good reason I can think of for using dashes in a domain name if it can be avoided.

Yeah... its to generic, your boards.ie yousename or similar would make a much more appealing/memorable name.
