They have to that because real ruggger supporters in Leinster only clap with three fingers in the palm of their hand. In Munster it is more exciting because that is where real men play. They know how to support their team.

    They've good singing voices too

I cant link it from my phone but Malachy Clerkin has a great bit in the IT today savaging the IRFU on this issue, for treating the punters as 'dumb mutts'

Lets hope the PR & Comms people have seen the backlash in time to switch off the gimmicks before tomorrows game.

Yup, as usual, lazy journalists just copying and pasting whatever is the latest "hot topic" on boards.ie amongst one or two other websites.

Imagine being a journalist before the internet? Must have been mental, coming up with your own ideas and opinions!

I imagine it's also possible that boards.ie users are not the only ones who find it irritating.

    People power.
    - boo whenever any 'atmosphere' is played over the PA

And while we are at it :
    - turn your backs on the Haka since our players are forced to watch it by NZ bullying of the IRB

I like it as a spectacle, I'll be watching.

My biggest issue as an atmosphere killer will probably be the **** seats I have way up in the buildings framework.

How about everyone just cheers for everything? Seriously, everyone is going to have an issue with some aspect of match days. I think the president coming out is retarded. Should I boo? I really think people should just get behind the team regardless. The AVIVA is never going to be same as Landsdowne road. We need to look forward rather than backward. Look at what Scotland did last night.

Electric atmosphere today, sort of proving that when the team is going well the atmosphere is going to be good.

Everyone got behind the team, there was huge noise for 81 minutes.

The stadium does however capture disappointment better then any other stadium i've been in.

When that try went in you could feel the whole atmosphere collapse.

It was like a funeral leaving the Aviva today; the first half was merely the wake.

Yeah all about what is on show!if the team give the crowd something to react to the crowd will respond. Rugby is like any other professional gig. What was put in front of the crowd was brilliant today and the crowd responded brillantly! Proffesional sport is an entairtainmemt business now for supporter in the stadium and the tv audience. Up to the guys who get paid the thousands to entertain the thousands who pay hundreds to see them

Like I mentioned before in this thread. The sole people responsible for the atmosphere are the crowd.

Great spectacle today. Was a pleasure to see a cracking game of rugby!!

I wasnt at the game today but the crowd led atmosphere was perceptible on the telly. Mentions on other media that the tannoy nonsense was cut way back, which is great to hear. If the IRFU have reacted to fans feelings on this then you have to say well done, its much better like it was today, keep it that way for the future.

only issue is the atmosphere will be dead still at some future games where we play badly or the opposition is poor. glad they left it alone today.

I think it's important when you previously complain about something that you acknowledge when your complaint (and similar complaints of others) has been listened to.

So credit to the IRFU or whoever runs the matchday experience that the tannoy music is no more. I hope this complaint will never rear its head again.

PS: It was great that when the tannoy music was played after Irish scores the crowd actually drowned it with their noise. It gave me such a lift! :)

You are right, thomond, give credit where credit is due. The rugby was all that mattered yesterday, and that was where the atmosphere was created. And very little running in and out with plastic pints too.....at least where I was anyway!! Hopefully this thread will now die.

Then those that attend will have no one to blame except themselves. The prawn sandwich argument is a very valid one. I said on Saturday morning that they should pull all the gimmicks and embarrass the crowd into getting the noise levels up. I was happy to see they did that, but the way the game went they needed no motivation as it turned out, but thats the way it should be from here on. What did crowds do at sporting events for the first 10,000 years of civilisation?!!

The lift between the team and the crowd is a symbiotic relationship, just take a trip to the Millenium stadium for a test match, even if Wales are playing cr@p the crowd are always on top voice and its got the team over the line more often than not.

actually it wasn't the worst I have experienced

Bordeaux in the RWC07 is till the worst...you could hear a pin drop despite thousands of people walking down the street

    Brian Moore on twitter
"I don't know if it came over on the screen but the Aviva crowd in the final minutes was loudest I have ever heard."

"Actually to qualify my last tweet - the crowd noise on Mo Farah'd last lap of both his golds was as loud."

That is some endorsement to compare it to Mo Farah's Olympic win.
