It will be set in a fictional harbour town on the Dublin coast. TV3 said the show will centre around two families in the town, as seen through the eyes of the local police precinct.

    huh? thats kinda strange

That reminds me of an old Leslie Nielsen advert

Does anyone else think that Redrock is a terrible name? It really does sound like an energy drink or a western. I hope they change it to something more catchy.

Mr McKenna grew up in Howth, Co Dublin, and said he had drawn on his life when writing the first two episodes of the soap. However, the setting of Red Rock will be fictional and it has not yet been decided where the location filming will take place once shooting begins in October.

TV3 is also considering building a permanent set near its existing studios in Ballymount in order to make the soap, which will employ more than 100 people.

“Although it is set in a police precinct, it’s not a police show, it’s about the wider community,” Mr McKenna said. The team of 10 writers hired for the production range from experienced television writers to people better known as novelists and playwrights.

Confirmed Red Rock is the name of the new soap.

Wonder if Sammy Hughes will take issue with the name seeing as he has been running a highly successful agricultural engineering business by the same name with over 20 years in the north.

Irish soap placenames, stones/rocks and the colour red?

Glenroe/Gleann Rua = The Red Glen
Fair City set in Carrigstown, Carrig/carraig, or rock
Red Rock a mix of the two

(Regarding Carrigstown, could it possibly be argued that it was anglicised from "carraig is tóin", rock & arse/base, or in other words "rock bottom") :p

That thought has actually inspired me, foxy!
I propose TV3 name and set their soap as/in New Holland instead. They could make it into a Home and Away type of show, but set mainly around a group of young Irish emigrants and their life in the Antipodes. Would probably cost more due to the setting, but I think it could open up more possibilities. :)

Considering its TV3 we're talking about here it'll probably end up like the BBC disaster El Dorado.

You're pushing the boat out there big time. A soap with canned laughter. Jaysus.
