Never really been to cork before (have been to the city but didn't get out much.)

Heading down on Friday with the missus - anything we need to do/can't miss etc.

im going to the English market. but other than that we have no plans.
Would want to be out in town and the area for most of Saturday and Sunday before heading back Sunday night. We ill have a car with us.

I literally know nothing about this city, so any suggestion is welcome?
Any events going on this weekend?

Saturday night is always a great night in the Oliver Plunkett bar on Oliver Plunkett St, 3 live bands in a row with a good respectable crowd

what kind of things are you intersted in. Tis nice to take a wonder down to Fitzgerald park all free and take a walk across the shaky bridge there is a little cafe there or you could bring a picnic. Plenty of parking if you wanted to drive.

mmm someplace nice for dinner would be nosta, cheap and cheerfull Scozzis, or plenty of other choices in the restaurant rec thread. I heard the bus tour isnt too bad and might give you a bit of info about the city. City Jail is fairly cronic I wouldnt bother unless you had a two for one token or something, which i do have a few if ye wanted any..

You can go kakaying on the river you get the boats from Atlantic sea kayaking just outside the clarion.. what else, what else

Kayaking sounds fun, but not in this weather. Maybe for a spring trip.

will try to check out the park. Tbh I think we will be walking and eating most of the weekend.
Will try to check out some sites. any animal parks or bird parks still open?

She has some family in cork so she knows a little about the area. I think there was some garden she wanted to check out.

Go to the Catwalk and then onto the Savoy, you'll have a ball.

While yenom is side splitingly funny and oh so clever, I wouldn't take her/his advice!

I guessed already. clubs/nightclubs/stripclubs/divebars/bikerbars/gaybars/cathouses/afterparties are all out for this weekend tho.
have the car with us so drinking will be minimal.

Casinos are a possibility, but im familiar with finding thos already.

Fota Wildlife Park is a 15/20 minute drive and is open all year round. Well worth a visit too

Day trip to Kinsale not far outside the city centre and stop off in the Bulman in kinsale for lunch would be my recommendation

Wouldn't argue with a trip to Kinsale

Take a trip to Shandon for great views across the city

    On Saturday

Crawford Gallery is a small free art and sculpture gallery in the city center. Nice cafe in there too.

I'd get a hot chocolate in O'Conails Hot chocolate shop on french church street near there, and then walk up to see Shandon Bells, Butter Exchange and Firkin Crane buildings.

Head to the english market. It's mainly a fresh food market, but have a look around at the stalls and, get lunch upstairs in the farmgate.
Bit of exploring the streets and shops then after that.

Out for the evening then in the city, loads of pubs and restaurants around. See the restaurant recommendation thread for loads of options.

For Sunday, I think a trip to kinsale would be nice. Wander around the town, look at the boats.

The Bulman is great for food and views. Really lovely having a drink or an early dinner / late lunch there looking out at the sunset over the sea. :)

If you're into wildlife, you should try Fota. Or else the Catwalk. ;) I would suggest Fota gardens too, but they only do group tours by appointment over the winter.

Kinsale is a good call for a day-trip, and a good bite to eat. Also worth checking out the Triskel art centre/late night cafe/bar/event venue (in Cork city centre) to see if there's anything on over that weekend.

If you're into walking, I'd recommend going along the North Mall and along the river to the Mardyke, and out along the Lee Fields. If you want to extend it further you could go through UCC grounds (quite nice) and as far as the Lough (bird sanctuary) and back into town. An alternative would be to park up at the end of Centre Park Rd., there's a nice loop you can do along the Marina, around Blackrock (taking in a coffee/meal at Blackrock castle!), Mahon and back up along the old railway line (one of my favourite walks in the city).

I like Orso or Cafe Gusto for lunch.

In terms of restaurants / food, it would very much depend on your taste:

    My own personal light-eating favourites:

    Orso (day or night)
    Gusto (day or night)
    Perry Lane Market

Wouldnt argue with you on this one. That walk is terrific! Especially the old railroad section from Marina out to Mahon Point.

Will second (or third?) Orso as an eating option. Very nice, tapas-style Middle-eastern stuff. Nice for an evening meal. For lunch, Iyers would be nice. It's authentic south Indian stuff - dosas, etc. All veggie, very unlike your normal Irish Indian. More of a cafe type setup though.

I would also highly recommend Iyer's for a light lunch on Saturday.

we ended up in the English market on Saturday, with a meal in four liars bistro (she had a voucher)
Sunday went to fota park, which we both enjoyed. Our hotel was in Middleton so it was convenient.
Hopefully we will visit cork again to check out more suggestions.
She really wants to go to the ewe park. So we will return in the new year.

Went passed the catwalk, was tempted.
