TG4 Greyhounds as Gaeilge?

    The Irish St Leger was shown live on TG4 tonight - and, as expected, the presentation was exactly the same as it was for the Laurels last month.

    Ian Fortune presenting and Michael Fortune commentating, those mainly black-and-white titles and that electric guitar-and-drums theme tune (both of which have been used for around ten years now). And not a word of Gaeilge.

    If TG4 ever did decide to do greyhounds coverage in Irish, I presume they'd call upon the services of Nemeton TV (which has produced virtually all of the channel's Irish-language sports output over the years). The programme would thus surely use a very different title sequence and a similarly very different theme tune, which would be refreshing.

    The presenter would almost certainly be Seán Bán Breathnach - greyhound racing having plenty in common with horse racing, which he likes a lot. Most of the interviews would still be in English, of course, but containing things like "comhghairdeas leat" and "go raibh míle maith agat" where necessary.

    As for who would describe the action as it happened - if they couldn't get any of their regular GAA or rugby commentators to do it, then they could always call upon Mícheál Ó Sé, who also likes his horse racing and has commentated on several races at Galway and Listowel for TG4.

    I wouldn't say all this would cost a lot, either.

    So why don't the folks at Baile na hAbhann consider it? Even if it turned out to be a complete failure, at least they could say they tried to break from the norm...

    since when is irish a foreign language ??

    but yes a translation would be good

    Actually posts in any language other than English must have an English translation underneath. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in a siteban.
