Visiting Carlow last week was dismayed that I couldn't find free parking. Shopping in Ashbourne recently there's plenty of free parking available in the town - also in Charlestown SC they give you 2 hours free. In the current economic conditions you would think its rather short-sighted to be charging shoppers to park. Are they putting on free parking in the town in the runup to Christmas does anyone know?

Plenty of treads catering to the same topic. Parking in Carlow is terrible, but you can find free parking easy enough.
On the Fairgreen note - I've been ticketed in Fairgreen several times. It's not from the County Council. You can just throw it away. Different story if they decide to clamp you of course. Often parked in there for well over 24 hours, and just ignored the ticket.
Never been any change in parking around Xmas time, so don't count on that.
