I'd be surprised if Bertrand went for anything higher then 7million TBH.

His days were well and truly numbered when Azpilicueta has been playing at LB the last 3 games ahead of Cole.

Hes a decent defender, not great, his main strength is going forward really and hes usually fairlyassured on the ball, I always rated Van Aanholt, whos off in Holland higher but I dont think neither were going to replace Cole long term which is nothing to be ashamed of considering how good Cole was and still is to a degree.

I reckon given game time he'll improve though but it really is time for him to move on and play reguarly.
    This.

I'd value him at around 7m also. I'd like to see it happen, a defence of:

    Bertrand
    Johnson

    Sahko----Agger----Skrtel

Would be solid defensively with a decent attacking platform also - you add some mettle into our midfield and improve on Moses with a decent winger then we have a good team and a decent squad with young players like Alberto, Suso, Ibe & Sterling coming through.

Ah I'm not saying he'd leave us for Spurs. Gives him a bargaining chip though.

I have a feeling that wouldn't go down too well with FSG and we could see how ruthless they really are

Finally we're signing Messi just as he goes into decline.

If we could leave Rodgers' contract until the summer, that would be nice. Unless they feel that it will get in the way of transfers etc, which would make sense.

Actually, in the process of writing this post I've pretty much changed my mind. Get the ground work done from February onwards :D

Still though, another three year contract should more than suffice.

I would wait till the end of the year before offering Rodgers a new contract.

What difference does it actually make. They can join other clubs if they want to and can be bought out of contracts. Talking about the terms of anyones contract in football is kind of irrelevent

I'd kind of agree but if the reports of other clubs being interested the owners may be forced to offer an attractive deal if they want to keep him.

Lets be honest, this is the first bit of sustained stability we've had for a while.

On a side note. I was mad for the owners to give AVB a chance when we were looking for a new manager. If things don't work for him at Spurs ( I'm not saying he'll be sacked ) but if the team don't click soon he may have to drop a level and work his way back to a top level club.

He's in the job less than 18 months. There's still a way to go this year and the results at season's end may very well influence the club's desire to keep him long term.

What's the rush really? He has over half his current deal to go. It seems utterly reasonable to wait until the end of the season and decide on offering him a new deal or not at the end of May / start of June.

Yes and no. If someone is sniffing around him they may want to tie him down - just as they do players.
I would bet that FSG are quite happy with him at the minute and could easily see them offering him a new contract. Barring an absolute collapse in form which would see us finish 7-8th or below then I cant see them letting him go.

As someone else said though, he isn't likely to leave Liverpool to join Spurs really. Spurs may well finish above us again, but I can't see him leaving us by choice for them. If they must do it then 5 years is still a long contract, although hopefully there will be a maximum package in the event of sacking clause inserted into it if it is a 5 year thing. I hope it doesn't come to that, but with the ruthless nature of football who knows how things will pan out.

Meh, whoever could get him to leave now would probably be attractive enough to get him to force his way out of a five year contract.

Exactly. But to your original gripe of them not waiting until end of season it is fairly mute too. I think they know already what they are going to do. Give it to him now or May i dont think it says too much either way.
If there is any truth to this it may be they are already negotiating the new contract (which can take months as we all know) and it could be announced in the summer.

I feel sorry for Cissokho. His positioning looks good and he chooses the right options but he is totally lacking confidence and the ball bounces off him rather than him controlling it.

Its a tough situation for a fairly young player:(

He is 26 so not that young a player. I was happy to see us sign Cissokho on loan, and still think that if he hits form that he would be a big help to the team, but it is up to him to be impressing in training and also on the pitch.

Might just be one of those moves where player and club just don't fit together, but outside of that it will be on the player to ensure that he makes the manager see him as a must keep.

What bid will it take to snare bertrand and mata from chelsea?

two of them are out of favour there and will fancy proving a point

pro: rodgers and mourinho get on

con: they won't want to strengthen a rival and will have been by sturridge deal

25 million would be a fair price for those two (18 + 7) but we may have to stretch to 30

Mata is a genuine top class player and would have a price tag to match if Chelsea wanted to sell him.

He could easily go for £30m on his own

Didn't he go to Chelski for about 20M in the 1st place and has only gotten better since. I was so sad when we missed out on him, I had convinced myself he was coming.

By all means throw a 5 year deal at Rodgers at the end of the season if progress is shown but it would be silly to now. Keep him on the edge, its ridiculous to think he would go to spurs, been a Irishman he would know how big of a thing it is to manage Liverpool, no offence to Spurs but it would be a huge step down imo.

A 5 year deal for Rodgers?

Let's wait until we actually achieve something. The summer is the time to sort out whether he's the man to lead us forward.

If he gets us into top 4 he'll deserve an extension. If he doesn't, he'll have next season to achieve it or be fired I'd imagine.

Those "calling me out"? it's the start of December for crying out loud, behave.

There has been positive signs, there has been negative signs, our season is currently very finely balanced and I definitely wouldn't be getting carried away with hailing it as a success just yet.

So far so good & if it keeps going like this I'll have been proved wrong about Rodgers. And will be delighted about it. But there's a long long long way to go & such is the nature of the league table this season that everything could change very quickly.

    Imposter.

I would say a lot these moves are guys with no future going out in the shop window now.

I would expect a big overhaul of the youth system is coming. Alot of clearing out of deadwood so to speak.
