Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It was certainly thrown in a lucky and desperation sort of sense. Nothing really planned or calculated. Just swing and hope. It worked.

    That's ridiculous.

I know it kills you to credit any Irish boxer with anything, but come on!!

It wasn't a swing!! It was a short punch. And a beautifully timed one at that.

    Was he blindfolded or something?

Maybe, but it often looks that way. You're consistently critical of Irish boxers.

I am quite praising of many. I can criticize, give less than favorable views. All are open and honest. You said all. That is well off the mark. Just because I am not 100 percent in praise all the time doesn't mean I am constantly critical.

Well find the most recent post where you were praising an Irish boxer.

It will be interesting to see how far back it is and how many non-praising posts were posted in the meantime.

I was asking you to prove you are "praising" of Irish boxers.

I don't think there lucky swings to be fair. He said it in his interview after his last fight. That he's worked more on it with Adam Booth. Hes done it in two fights back to back so I doubt it's luck. But it does get him out of serious trouble

    I sense a Macklin debate....

Anyway, any of my criticisms for him is as an English fighter.:pac:

He has been somewhat lucky, how confident would you be that he would beat Jackson and Korobov if they were to fight a second time?

He doesn't dominate and win enough rounds meaning you can'take really feel confident that he'll beat Quillin.

But he'll always be in the fight with that punch he has even if he doesn't dominate he has it in his locker. Which he's shown in his last two fights so it's not a lucky punch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 931 ✭✭✭Chrissybhoy

Do you think he would beat Jackson and Korobov a second time if they fought?

If it went the distance no. But I'd give Andy Lee a chance for a KO because of his ability to produce that punch out of noting

You're right that is just one. I'd actually forgotten her, but in fairness if you criticised her it would be so stupid nobody would ever read your posts again.

However, you claimed you were "quite praising of many". That's just one.

    This is off topic.

But, just go to the 2012 Olympic Thread. I am probably the most vocal supporter in that thread of the lads and their boxing talents. There may be a few comments/opinions regarding their out of ring activities. That is completely separate.

Or, more recently the prizefighter winner, Carroll. It's not that difficult to find positive posts from me relating to Irish boxers. Of course, you will find "negative" ones, as in where some boxers haven't excited me. That's only natural. I am not the only one that has ever posted on the boxing form to show that.

You said it kills me to credit any Irish boxer. I would argue that I have been more in praise to Irish boxers than in blatant (for the sake of it) criticisms of them. I will also add that to many boxers I have been both impressed and praising to not so impressed. Boxers like Michael Conlon, for example, he has really grown on me. Took me a while to appreciate him. Same for Nevin. Used to be frustrated with him, but I warmed to him an awful lot. Barnes always gets massive praise for his boxing talents and achievements. Egan before him.

Me thinking that Lee's KO shot was somewhat lucky isn't at all me criticizing Lee. I just thought that the shot had a sort of hit and hope luck off it. A desperation shot. He is not the first, and won't be the last boxer to get that opinion from me. It's a bit silly that the view I have of Lee's KO shot vs. Jackson goes down the road of me hating to praise Irish boxers.

You sure you're not confusing me with gene tunney? Sorry, gene!:pac:

No such thing as a lucky punch. Every punch you throw is intentional. Sure ,he was off balance but that was about two seconds before the punch was thrown. This swing and hope notion is ridiculous.

Of course every punch is intentional. His KO shot was more desperate, as in he was under extreme pressure and in an awkward position. He wasn't fully in control of where he wanted to be. So, in that sense the shot had a kind of lucky element to it. The actual throwing of the shot wasn't lucky. He deliberately threw it.

    Well, we'll agree to disagree.

And don't worry, you're not in gene tunny's league when it comes to hardcore negativity. He's out on his own.

What?..so he deliberately threw the shot at his opponent which was not lucky but was kinda lucky at the same time.

even when your giving credit you find a way to be critical, megadodge is right your always first in line to find fault.

Oh relax, will ya, Tiger! Kind of lucky in the sense that he was reeling, and under a lot of pressure and not where he wanted to be. That's all. In other words, I can see how some people would describe it as kind of lucky. It's actually not even a bloody criticism, just a view on what some people may think of the incident. I am certainly not criticizing Andy for getting a KO win. The swing and hope description I initially gave was off the mark. I will admit to that.

BTW, I wasn't first to "find fault" (whatever that means) with Andy in relation to the KO shot. I just gave my view on the original post.
