So I have decided to go down the pc media center road and build one myself. I have been working in IT for a while so I understand how it all goes together and a the pros and cons of the various operation systems. One thing I can't seem to get me head around is the sound aspect of it. From what I can make out only video will go out though the hdmi port on most motherboards but there almost always seems to just a a simple sound interface. I want to have a 5.1 system I am assuming I would need an optical out interface. Or am I missing something! :o

Any advise of examples of setup and how you deal with sound would be great.

    No, sound also goes out.
Also maybe CEC if the devices are capable.
