South East Underground Metal scene - pre 2010

Decided to make this thread after discussion from the Waterford Napalm Death thread.

Anybody remember the metal scene in and around the South East going back a few years ago? Seemed to be booming. No idea what its like today, but I think its quietened down a fair bit. How is it?

Used to be some great bands I enjoyed.

To name a few

Thoughts of Ruin
Orpheus
Saviours of Sin
Athrax Mantis
And loads more.

Anybody know where most of these bands ended up?
Any particular bands or gigs you remember and enjoyed?

I've also been looking for some uploads of these bands albums & ep's but I cant anything

Mayhap worth checking out the Waterford Metalheadz FB group. Mostly stuff related to new metal bands and metal discussion in general but sometimes the older bands come up in discussion.

I can only speak for Waterford but guess that over the years many local metal bands were made up of folks still in school. As soon as they left school many moved to go to uni and stuff. Always hard to keep continuity going when a chunk of local talent leaves.

There are a few young local metal bands kicking off in Waterford but I don't think there's a gigging scene at the moment which is a shame. The only local band producing and gigging that I'm aware of is Uproot Chaos (and pretty good they are too) https://www.facebook.com/UprootChaos

Yeah T and the lads from Mantis are still going, supported cannibal corpse last time they were in belfast. They mainly play in dublin now as the scene down here in KK is dead.
