Just wondering would it be a good idea to start a thread for trade tips. Like common faults and solutions.
    Wiring tips,
Fault finding .i.e RCD nuisance trips,
    General handy tips.
    Possibly even RECI changes.

    What does everyone think?

Could we start the tips here on this thread? And if so, it doesn't matter how basic the tip is who wants to start first?

    Trade tip?

If you bend a cable over and squeeze it really hard, it doesn't stop the electricity coming out....

Hard to believe apprentices still fall for that.. :D

Works well with variable speed drill, new apprentice, and getting him to fold lead as tight as he can.

    Tip.
When lifting heavy drums of cable always use appropriate lifting equipment with a sky hook designed to exceed the weight you are lifting, and ensure the pin is correctly in position by hitting it with a glass hammer.

    It's always somebody else's fault

For anyone who might be bending steel trunking, it is often asked how far to measure each side of the centre line of the bend for making a 45 degree bend.

The distance from the centre line is 0.41 x width of trunking. So for 100mm trunking, measure 41mm each side of the centre line, for 150mm trunking, its 61.5mm, for 200mm trunking, its 82mm etc.
